i like that there isnt a bowl like iv said before theres enough of them around and also the idea of being able to just go around in a sort of triangle loop so you can just go around doing lines rather than just up and back (eg ringwood park) but still need more local skater input

Doyle, what else do you think is needed?
I've been annoying the users on the facebook page and they've asked me for some ideas and things to add from a locals angle.
Everyone does seem pretty annoyed at the design but yeah triangle layout looks pretty sick and unique.

The triangle layout is a good idea. What happens at each point though? Why not have some kind of corner obstacle in there? Something like the pic? A little more fun than a flat area to do a flatground carve?

Again an uninspired backwards step for Australian skatepark design. More interested in architecture props and an easy sell to non skaters.

Makes you wonder why you bother! I reckon Doyle and Yolanda get all the reasoned, experienced opinions you can from the locals. Take pictures and drawings and submit them.

yolanda i have been talking to them on facebook as well and they seem to be down for some little adjustments that i have said
and i suggested a curved ledge around the corners like josh said aswell but yeah i dont really mind the design it could work out alright

"More interested in architecture props and an easy sell to non skaters."

That just about sums it up. It also helps alot if you have some kind of proper skateboard association, as is the case in Canberra. Councils pay alot more attention to groups like that and it probably helps to get past all the fancy bullshit and get value for money.
It's been suggested before that they push the youth space shit to get more money for skateparks. More like just more money and lame design awards for themselves and cool photos for future presentations.

Ledge corners idea is real good.
Hopefully goes through.
A boob on another corner?

Something as simple as a boob could totally change the flow and lines. Make a boring nothing space a feature that gives speed, creativity and a novice or a pro can have fun with it.

Yolanda/Doyle you are a locals. You will probably spend more time there than the designers, parents or once a month youth worker visit. You have the right to voice what you want. You need to get a hold of your mates, sit down with them and get photos and drawings you all agree on and submit them as a group. Take ownership and give clear direction to what you want. This park could be one of the best things to happen to the scene in your hood or just a flop.

Yo English they updated plans which were a big improvement on the underwhelming originals. There is a facebook page for the park which had the updated plans. I can't access from my work 'puter

I went and had a look at it on Saturday evening and was pretty disappointed in it mainly because it still feels like an architecture wank fest park that happens to have a bowl in the middle and a few ledges and rails scattered around the place.
Convic seem to design a heap of parks and then Concrete build them. Supposedly these guys are skateboarders, but we still get stuck with obstacles that aren't skatable due to their length, positioning, lack of height (too low) or they are just plain stupid. Does no one look at these plans before they start digging some holes and concreting them?
There was the form work for a hubba there and the coping was less than 20cm off the ground. If a kid can go down a hubba, albeit a fairly mellow one, you would assume they can ollie higher than 20cm to get on it and would prefer something a little higher for their progression.

fucking whinging spoilt pricks, just go one suburb over and there is another million dollar park , fucking seriously

Mate I grew up in an era when there was very few parks to skate anywhere and they were harsh at best. I understand how you could see people as being ungrateful when large budget facilities are being built and they find fault.

The problem is that any one suburb will only get the one park, and that park will stay unmaintained for decades. That park is it. Can you not see why you would not want to maximise that opportunity?

Look back through the thread and see the initial plans compared with the final plans and see how a little lobbying can be a great thing.

Now look at New Zealand and Oregon and look at the latest parks. I reckon we can do better.

Shit will still be skated and still be fun, it is about getting the best park possible. Designers are becoming complacent and Australia is falling behind.
