"I do get it though. If you think from their perspective..."

the only thing they are thinking is how hot skateboarding is right now and how they can use that as marketing to make money...

"for a business to invest in something different like that...."
and why do businesses invest in things? for the purpose of making money...

What shits me is the use of skateboarding purely as a marketing tool...What the fuck does mexican food have to do with skateboarding? Do skateboarders own beach burrito? What have they done or given back to skateboarding? As a skateboarder it kills me to see skateboarding bent over and fucked in the ass with a thick piping hot burrito...

"You think any old punter should be able to just rock up and be able to have a crack? It's fair and reasonable. "

I reckon most people having a sook would shit themselves when it's their turn to drop in!

I think the "skate panel" is just one or two blokes saying "yeah nah" when kooks rock up.

Sounds like you may have a finger in this fajita....so to speak...

Fingering fajitas? Sounds sexy, probably isn't. I've got no connection to the joint apart from knowing some of the people involved (who are skaters) and having the privilege of having a few sessions there.

You guys crack me up. These guys poured a shitload of cash into their dream concept. Do you honestly think the bowl will have a good return on investment? Of course it's to make their place have a point of difference. They threw down $2k the other night FOR SKATEBOARDERS and fed free booze and food to a couple of hundred people. They are skaters too and have put money into sponsoring skateboarding stuff like Bowlarama. Are you guys oblivious to businesses and how they run? Are you surprised by people wanting to create a profit? There would be a lot easier and quicker ways than building an indoor pool!

We have a new venue for skateboarders, for art shows or whatever the fuck you want to propose to them to see if they will run it. You cunce will have a whinge about anything!

Anyhow, here are some photos from one of the closed door sessions. This is why I am a big fan of the place. I'm not writing in this thread again. Bunch of sooks!

For starters isn't it a chain store? Of course they have cash to give a free feed and some booze to a SELECTED group of skateboarders...What a surprise they put money into sponsoring bowlorama when they have a store in bondi!!! My whole point is NOT being oblivious to a company using skateboarding as a gimmick to sell fuckin burritos? Wake up...

Mr Simon Ketchy
Mr Simon Ketchy 09:22 21/Apr/15

Yeah Fergo, it is a chain store and the whole concept is like McDonalds saying to a kid with glasses "Nah, you won't be playing on the playground today as you are a weiner". This is everything that is wrong with skateboarding. Josh, they aren't being sooks- just realistic. If on the other hand you felt like it was unfair it'd be a different story entirely.

Pretty brave move opening up directly next to trippy taco.
If it gives kirksy $500 more dollars to keep being awesome who fucking cares ? I'm sure you guys would be a bit kinder if it was a burger joint with perfect marble blocks as seats and they had a lord of the lines comp every few months.

I could be wrong, but from looking over the site and other info re Beach Burrito Company, the CEO is a skateboarder, they have skateboarders working there and as to the fact that they built it in their place and choose who skates the bowl, it is a private facility, not a public park, so you can get fucked if you think you have a right to anything other than the option to ask to ride it.

It is the same as Godbowl and other private facilities - they are not your given right as a skateboarder to automatically be allowed to ride it, as well as the basis of breaking the law to skate something you are not allowed to as well - sure we all did it / do it every time we hit up a school yard or jump a fence or whatever, but if you can have one little tiny bit of respect for the people in their position.

If you build something on your own private land, you wouldn't want someone jumping the fence or breaking in every other second to use it, and neither do they.

I have never been to a Beach Burrito, but because of the skateboarding involvement, I am more keen to go there just to see what it is about anyway. Then I will make up my own mind as to whether or not I buy a burrito or have a beer there, or go somewhere else for a feed and a brew.

It is completely NOT the same as any other playground in Maccas or the like, which is designed for the general public. They have tried to be nice and explain about the bowl rather than just saying NO to all of you, but I guess skaters are haters, so people will not care or make their own judgements.

Whatever dudes...

fergo 23:22 24/Apr/15

ah brimson........if the c.e.o of beach burrito is a "skateboarder" do you think he or she would be fine with their marketing team releasing the statement they did regarding who is "allowed" to skate the "gnarly and unforgiving "pool"..." as a skateboarder surely reading that statement you must at the very least cringe....speaking for myself i do not think i have the right to skate it but i will not get fucked...by all means build your bowl but don't use that as your "centrepiece" "drawcard" " interweb look at us we are skaters and sell burritos and have art shows and any other popular cultural activities" marketing bullshit....as i said the use of skateboarding as a marketing tool (a mexican "restaurant" chain store) can get fucked...if as a company your "down" with skateboarding then your either all in or your not...your a skateboarder or your not...simple...if your raping skateboarding for a monetary gain THEN YOU CAN GET FUCKED! you skateboard or you don't...theres no half steppin... "its the same as god bowl" you say...and whats the agenda by having a "pool" at a church you halfwit???!! maybe they can sway some wayward youth to join the holy crusade fuck me wake up! yea yea its for the kids theres no pressure blah blah blah they are doing a good thing....but where do they get the cash to "fulfill their dream of building a pool for the "kids"? they're a "business" too!! MR simon ketchy is spot on...brimson you say "It is completely NOT the same as any other playground in Maccas or the like, which is designed for the general public..." Mcdonalds is one of the largest businesses in the world!!! how the fuck can you think their playgrounds are designed for the general PUBLIC?!!! They are a private organisation and their playgrounds are for patrons of their restaurants....all patrons....you start your statement by saying "i could be wrong"... then follow with "I have never been to a Beach Burrito, but because of the skateboarding involvement, I am more keen to go there just to see what it is about anyway."....sucker.......again re-read the statement from beach burrito regarding the "history" and "judging panel" in regards to being "allowed" to have a roll....send in your sponno vid or whatever the judging panel made up of professional skateboarders, skate photographers and the c.e.o himself needs to see and please get back to us on your eligibility to have a roll.....

fergo 23:25 24/Apr/15

good luck brimson...kook

skaters whinging about corporate interest is like homeless dudes yelling at people who walk too close to their piss soaked cardboard box.

fergo 13:02 25/Apr/15

as a homeless collective those piss soaked boxes and shit stained square metre around them is THEIRS! they can either make some noise or let people walk all over them....

Does a dude who loves skateboarding make a bowl for people to come get wrecked or stuck in? I don't think so. He makes it to be able to (1) skate himself or a close second (2) to watch skaters riding it and make it fun for others to watch or ride a skateboard in it.

I sure was happy to see some of the skateboarding action on the video and pics of it and definitely am not of a level to be able to ride something like that, probably now at being in the 40+ crowd or ever, for that matter, but I can still appreciate what has gone into it.

You might want to be the clueless dude behind a keyboard and maybe not actually look into the info on their site, read about the guy who created it, etc and all the power to you for doing it - just keep rolling, cause everyone has the right to say what they like on here as well as criticise others who disagree with them - just as I will not lose any sleep over it or anything you say.

Re kook - yes I am sure in life I have kooked it more than I ever realise, probably did here too, but when you guys are shutting it down as per all comments above, I feel like I want to give some too.

I don't live anywhere near any of their stores and not that inclined to travel just to eat at their place, but I am curious to go see this bowl in person and just because I would be away for work and work pays for my meals, I would probably eat there too, just to see what all the fuss is about.

Apart from that, it would not matter what or where, when it comes to a skateboard facility inside a private place, but like Godbowl, I know those guys and they have skated for a long time and wanted to make somewhere they didn't have in any kind of normal access, hence the building of a pool like replica for their own and any other skater's enjoyment, not pushing religion or their beliefs once on anyone there to skate.

Can't you be happy to just skate, or you still want Dead Kennedys logos on your grip tape and Fuck the Police playing on the stereo?

Maybe you are not even old enough to get those references.

Sorry.

And also sorry to sound soft or to agree with you, but I do find it quite funny that someone who wants to ride it has to have credentials scrutinised by a panel of dudes who have seemingly made it in skateboarding. I know some guys they would not have ever heard of that might just be able to shred it better than half of the cool / spono dudes in the magazines, but chances are they would not even get to set foot inside the cage.

Do you really think a skateboarder would have come up with that wording though? More like the legal dude or someone similar...

Anyway, on with the show, as the saying goes.

Thought this pic might just do it for you too.

There is a link to save the Vic Mega ramp on their main page too, which you could look at.
