Some Alternate History recommendations (that's when the author changes sthings around e.g. Germany wins WW2 and the like):
*The Guns of the South by Harry Turtledove (South African white supremacists jump in a time machine and go back to near the end of the American Civil War, supply the south with AK47s and it carries on from there).
*The Peshawar Rifles by S.M. Stirling (set in a world where Europe has been devastated during the 1850s by a fuckoff big meteor - sort of adventure/good guy saves girl story)
*Island in the Sea of Time by S.M. Stirling (modern island of Nantucket mysteriously winds up in 2000BC, Islanders get involved in world affairs, introduce technology, have wars etc.) - thats the first in a trilogy by the way.
*Fatherland by Robert Harris (detective story set in post WW2 Germany where the Germans won the war)
*Lighter Than a Feather by Robert Westheimer (novel about the invasion of the Japanese Home Islands in WW2 in Operation Olympic - it didn't go ahead in the real world)

All good yarns that get you thinking too.

bondi...John Birmingham's Weapons At War Trilogy is similar. large multinational taskforce gets sent back in time to WW2. germans get their hands on new technology...Japs read the history books...find out where they went wrong and invade Australia...Bundaberg is the scene of a huge battle.

A good yarn.

Yeah I read all of those Laz and they are tops - you know he lives up your way too. I've conversed with the feller via teh InterWebz and successfully missed having dinner with the bloke the last few times he's come to Sydney...

I mentioned his last book Without Warning earlier in this thread too, the sequel is off to the publishers this week I believe. They are all vastly different to his earlier efforts like He Died With a Fleafel In His Hand, The Tasmanian Babes Fiasco and Leviathan.

I haven't bothered to add him to my facebook list - but his blog and entries for the Brisbane Times are good for a laugh.
PPazlo_Lanaflex8 July 2009

Finished Hell's Angels last night, I'll have to sift back through this thread the next book now.

And yes Drew, Chris Bath was pretty ordinary back in her NBN (newcastle) days, but now that she's moved up to 7's makeup and stylists shes looking way better.

I'm reading Dark Truths - Enter The Twisted World of The Serial Killer. It focuses on the psychology of serial killers. Pretty good, considering most serial killer books are sensationalist pieces of shit.
