I used to love Clancy books but man, the cunt can rag on about meaningless shit.

Rainbow Six is about the best one I've read. The Jack Ryan ones bore me to tears
Wwil. d29 June 2009
yeah I have read to Jack Ryan ones and thats it so maybe that's why I hate his writing so much.

just finished reading choke, awesome book, movie i watched this morning, not as good, didnt have the same ending.
YYahbrain29 June 2009
Choke is a great book. I haven't seen the movie yet, kind of don't want to spoil my recollections of the book.

Other Pahluniuk stuff is worth reading too, Invisible monsters (Ithink thats the name) is another good one.

anything in mind?
PPazlo_Lanaflex30 June 2009
Dunno. I want a good trilogy or something. Maybe some fantasy or science fiction.
UUltimate Russ30 June 2009
ill recommend Wilbur Smith's River God again then
PPazlo_Lanaflex30 June 2009
Sorry man. I can't stand Wilbur Smith. I used to read his books when I was younger but started to find the same descriptions used over and over again.

Maybe...
PPazlo_Lanaflex30 June 2009
Okay Rusty...I'll give it a go. Just googled some reviews and yeah, sounds okay.

Oh fuckcunt, I forgot a series of books you guys would shit bricks over. The Emperor Series by Conn Iggulden. A series of 4 books detailing the life of Julius Caeser from a young lad to General and Emperor. Fucking great books.

His other series is about Genghis Khan and is equally as epic. He's a history professor so knows his shit.

Im about halfway through kafka on the shore.

Teacher got rags in the bush and cleaned it up and a kid found the bloody rags.

Theres some weird alien like encounter.

Johnnie Walker (yes he dresses in top hat and tails) ate live cats hearts and got stabbed to death.

The old dumb guy cant talk to cats no more

The library dude is a chick.

Its rained fish and leeches.

Kafka is meant to kill his dad and shag his mum and sister.

The japanese are some crazy motherfuckers.

Laz, if you are after some lightweight yet enjoyable fantasy it's hard to go past Raymond E. Feist. Start with 'Magician', his first book, and he has written a metric fuckload of books since, set in the same world etc.. Quite the page turners they is.

For some classic sci-fi, you could try Harry Harrison, either his earlier 'Deathworld' series, or better yet 'The Stainless Steel Rat' series. They aren't super serious sci-fi, but good yarns. Wish someone would make movies out of them (actually Harrison has been selling the movie rights to Stainless Steel Rat annually for years. He's happy, keeps food on the table!).

i started reading The Day of the Triffids

its pretty good

If anyone's looking for a good book that's very well written and highly intellectual, i would recommend anything by Dave Eggers. Especially his latest (i think its his latest), 'A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Truth'.

otherwise, its probs abd but 'Ice Station', as cheesy as it is, as an entertaining read.

Another one from Wyndham to check out is "The Chrysalids", not as good as triffids but still an ok read.

Bondi, I own all of Feist's books. Even his latest series.

The Magician trilogy is an all time favourite and Magician itself would be in my top 5 books.

Cheers for the tips on the others
