The Stuckey OP24 July 2008New guitar players thread.
Couldn't find the last one.
Right now i'm really digging Slash, Dimebag and Ace Frehely.
Hopefully going halfsies with my mum for a Les Paul for combined birthday/x-mas.
Whether its a Gibson or Epi is determined by how stingy my folks are feeling.
i like pete wentz
if they're only gunna get you an Epi don't get one at all. find some other brand that you can afford that actually make good guitars
epi is the bottom of the rung man.
does any one know of cheap but loud stack for metal/hardcore tones? im starting to play gigs. i was thinking of maybe just getting an extension cab for my line6 spider valve, but i dont know if it'll be good enough. its only 40w but its a valve amp. helppp
don't skimp out on an amp just to make it louder man. if you're playing a gig they should have a PA with a mic on your amp. if they don't the gig sucks.
i'm not a fan of line 6 amps but i'm a fan of valves. stick with the valves, maybe chuck a marshall box under... a 2x12 is easy to cart and sounds just as good.
don't go buying a solid state head and cheap box like a Hughes and Ketner Warp 7. those things are hideous

PrOpS???24 July 2008I generally give my axe a break over winter.
my fingers get cold.
thanks deathmoth. yeah ive just been micing up my amp latley. im pretty happy with the sound of my amp even though its line 6. it sounds better then a few higher end amps ive tried. i just looking to upgrade my gear, but eventually ill hopefully get a peavey 5150/6505 or an engl blackmore. for now ill probably just get a cab and a noise gate, ive heapd good things about isp's stuff but pretty pricey so boss it is haha.
acoustic guitar and harmonica combo ftw

Slappy24 July 2008Opeth, mikael akerfaldt is the fuckin madshit riff master.
nah man. the ISP Decimator pedal is your best friend when it comes to noise reduction. i have one and i swear is soooooooo much better than the boss noise supressor. it probably only costs about 50 bucks more. i got mine for 200
"even though its line 6"
I dont get it, I personally rate the line 6 gear. We got a spider 3 praccy amp here and while its no Mesa Boogie, it aint bad for 150 bucks. I hold line 6 gear in high esteem but yeh, if its a praccy amp, its a praccy amp, dont expect it to be more.
Personally, if I had to play live, id buy a line 6 pedal board and chuck it through my ampeg 100 watt valve guitar head (designed by lee jackson). The distortion on this particular head is pretty orrible (old fashioned muddy marshall sound) but its good enough clean and loud and the line 6 board will give you any sound you want, just turn off the cab emulator. Id need the flexibility of having a bunch of sounds and fx to switch patches without having to tap 4 pedals within half a second and I reckon the line 6 floor unit would be ideal.
As an added bonus, if your head blew up on the road, you could always turn on the cab emulator, line it into a DI box and go direct and it would probably pass.
i didnt mean it like that shutdown. i like my amp. line 6 just have a weird reputation, people seem to love them or hate them.
yeah ive tried a pedal through the clean channel on an amp something just didnt sound right, but it was a zoom. i dont really need all those extra effects anyway. just need the basic stuff. thanks for the help though.
yeah isp it is
yeh ISP decimator is the one on the far left. all it has is a threshold control all the rest is automatic. i was sceptical at first but the shit their website says is true. it can tell the difference between a sustained note and feedback so you don't need to fuck with attack and release controls, all automatic. also a cool thing is that if you want to sustain your notes into feedback it doesn't seem to cut them off...smart shit!
line 6 stuff. hmm. i do like line 6 above all the other multi-effects/modelling solutions out there. they do sound pretty good. the delay modelling stomp box is probably one of the best delay stomp boxes around. however i've recorded through a pod and i've recorded through a real amp and the real amp always has the potential to sound better because the sound is actually created by air moving.
i've got mates in cover bands who swear by the Pod Live range but in the end i think going through all that digital processing steals a bit of the sound of your guitar, thins it out a bit. its hard to explain but its there.
anyway this is my rig, theres also a Boss 1979 CE2 chorus in there now also
Just bought a japanese made ce-3 chorus , also been getting into Ottmar Leibert lately, nice simple melodic classic nylon style stuff with the use of natural minor and majors, awesome stuff.

The Stuckey27 July 2008Making a guitar is something i've always wanted to do, yet can never find the time.
I have a very long list of such things.
wat type of music u play death moth?
dude that gibson is so good
in my apartment right now there is a late 60's gibson 330, a 64 country western gibson acoustic, a black 59 strat, a mid 60's les paul junior, an early 70's tele, and an early 70's firebird.
my flatmate works in a vintage guitar shop. i am a LUCKY human.
