Looking into those line 6 dm-4 distortion modelers, can't fork out the money to buy a proper fuzz face and selection of overdrive/distortion pedals so looking at getting one of these, anyone have any thoughts ?

fuck getting an array of different distortion sounds. pick on good overdrive and get an amp with a good lead channel. get a proper fuzz face if thats your thing you won't regret it.

Rock n roll High School? Easy street? Nah seriously...
Hey tricky question that Deathmoth or someone should be able to answer - if a mixed recording gets mastered, and as a result of the mastering all hard panned signals gain volume, and the middle panned stuff dips, that's gotta be phase cancellation eh? Considering they only had a l-r stereo mix to work with eh...their gear must be hooked up out of phase somewhere along the line eh? Or any odd number of times (considering if it happened twice it would cancel out the phase cancellation eh)...I'm guessing out of phase prior to running through a stereo linked compressor. Does that sound right?
Oh yeah and on constant signals that move around the stereo field the friggen tonal quality changes depending which side of the field it might be at a given moment.

In the words of WAYNE - YES WAY!
SERIOUSLY!
I went there for three years, thurston moore from Sonic youth sponsered it/well chucked in some cash for concerts and certain bands touring...It was a house in Easy street fitzroy and it was a school of rock. Sounds ridiculous but it was sooo koool,i learnt god save the queen when i was 15 by this hilarious teacher called spud with red hair tight jeans and doc martin boots..
I wanna go back there, but they where forced to close due to funding and now i cant find anyone who knows where they relocated. yellow pages aint going to help here.

Foxa it sounds like they used some kind of stereo image widening shit. Sometimes brings a bit more clarity to a mix through separation, but is frought with phase issues if not used properly.
I'm guessing a recording of yours or someone you know has been fucked up by a mastering house? If it is the way you've described then I certainly wouldn't be paying for it...

Yeah a mate got some stuff done, and reckoned there was nothing wrong with it *rolls eyes*... mind you I had this same guy looking over my shoulder while I mixed some stuff a while back and he kept asking what this funny annoying sound in the background was. After a whole bunch of fucking around solo'ing tracks and listening for what it might be, editing out the clear space between verses on the vocal tracks etc (digi is pretty convenient like that) turns out "that's the fucken hi-hat! it's meant to be there!" No fucking word of a lie.
Haha yeah, I can relate to that. Bit of a thankless job sometimes because so many people simply don't understand it.
A mate and I were trying to mix some really shitly recorded brutal death for this dude, and he was such a pain in the arse to work with. He'd actually recorded bits of him just playing the ride by itself in a particularly fast bit (presumably he stuffed it during the actual tracking) and just pasted that in OVER THE TOP of the overhead track. Not even realising the the rest of the track had all the kit sound and etc. I'm pretty sure the guitars were recorded through a Zoom pedal! Vocals recorded in basically a concrete room, so heaps of slapback.. I could go on..
He wanted us to make it sound like Beneath the Massacre or Spawn of Possession...

hahahahaha just punching in on one track of the drums!!
Hey but I bet that zoom sounded pretty sick with the stereo reverb running through ipod headphones while he was recording though eh hahahaha
Yeah concrete room - I never got why people think it sounds good recording vocals in the bathroom or some shit. It sounds dodgy when you try to add a 'verb when there's already one on there - unless you've got a magic bathroom with the perfect natural 'verb built into the architecture...

i recorded vocals in a concrete room recently and it sounded fair mint. just used the cardioid setting and had him stand pretty close with a pop shield right on his grill. didn't capture too much of the room...but the room itself had not a bad sound.
as for your problem fox. dunno mate it sounds like they fucked it. if the phase was flipped on one of the stereo channels then the result would more likely only effect the sound of the shit in the center of the mix...actually it would effect the stuff in the center full on, then decreasingly effect the stuff on the flipped side untill it reaches hard pan.
i wouldn't pay em. sounds like a fair fuck up

Yeah I ain't paying - my mate reckons these people do a good job, so he's been using them. I was kinda just spinning out thinking "how the hell could they fuck it up like that and think they're adding value to the shit?!" Just kinda let my mate do his thing - I'm not his biggest fan (of his material/singing) but he's digging it, so I don't wanna rain too hard on his parade. But yeah when a guitar solo gets panned around and it sounds obviously like it's been eq'd differently depending what side of the field it's on, and fades when it gets to the centre, you know something's up haha
Oh well...I'll just have to check who he is using before I get anything done...somewhere else hahaha

hey, whos seen the ad for Slash's new Epi signiture model?
At the end of the ad, the chick says 'The new epihone Slash signiture les paul: The next best thing to being Slash'.
Of course it is.
The next best thing to being able to play like Slash.
An Epiphone.
What are you on, bitch?

My project guitar is just one layer of finish away from being complete. But due to HSC that won't be for a while : (. And on the topic of Epi's, fuck getting an Epi LP, get an Agile Prestige or something like that. They fucking rule. Much closer to a real Gibson in terms of sound and build quality, but cheaper than a high-end Epi (oxymoron?).
my uncle is head of music at some school and i loosley threw out that i would mind try to learn how to play... next time i see him he flows me a guitar, been playing for like a week no leasons fuck its funny just pissing around on it. much love
Epi's are some of the worst quality guitars in their price range. unless its a super old Epi, from when Epi WAS Gibson then its worth a pinch of shit and not much more
even new gibsons don't have the quality of build that should be accompanying their price tag...take that from me I own a guitar that was possibly over priced just a tad

Samick make Epiphone guitars these days (basically)
i have an epi exp, it's fair narce except for the weight and it's neck heavy which is a cunt and the neck is really thick and hard to play on the higher frets
