Laid down another song over the weekend. Got vocals to do but I think my flatmate will be out for a little while when I get home tonight so will probably bang them out tonight.
Wrote guitar parts for another little ditty last night so hopefully I'll get that down this weekend.

Yeah might sus out getting one or two up over the weekend. Got the latest little number finished and mixed on the weekend. Got 3 others there to mix again - they came out like shit trying to mix through the old piece of shit headphones I had, but I got a decent set now and fuck as you'd know it makes the job so much easier.

i'm not a hardcore kid. sure there are still a few decent bands in that vein of music and its derivitives but yeh i don't really play "hardcore"

i'm more into the early sweedish melodic death metal bands as well as all the beast rock guitarists like Zakk Wylde and Slash. i been playin a lot of Opeth lately to get my head into some different ways to play riffs and solos in the DADFAD tuning. i play some blues, from traditional BB type stuff to more fancy stuff like Robyn Ford. i don't really play much jazz but i occassionally listen to fusion and dabble in Jeff Beck. i play a pretty mean pink floyd too... got my bends wired fool!

I could never be bothered getting used to having the top strings tuned different. I just stick to standard, and a little dropped D. Sometimes bust out the DGDGBE (dropped G I guess you'd call it) for a bit of slide on the acoustic.

I could never see the point of Kim Thayil using his DADAAD or somthing like that...actually it might have been all E's and B's...

yeh i know what you mean. i think the things with tunings like that one are when u play the adjacent string, you can do wierd drone things easily. plus its kind of a tonal thing. similar to the reason why you'd play a 12 string, two of the same note, but never quite the same has a certain chorusy tone which is cool.

the DADFAD i'm digging though. tune top 3 down a step then drop your low E to D and you've got an open D minor chord. the comforting thing about this tuning is that since you're top 3 are still at regular intervals, is that all your 3 string chord formations are still valid, just shifted up two frets. you can still solo using very much the same patterns you'd be used to and everything.

the added benefit again, is the ability to do the eastern sounding drone riffs... hence the opeth sound

I've been fucking around on dropped g tuning everynow and then, started tackling modes n shit, Phrygians are fucking sweet. Gonna start looking for a tele soon, probably just settle for a standard american series, they seem to go shitloads cheaper overseas then here and are a fair bit cheaper then standard us strats.

Yeah with dadfad I was thinking of the drones (and moreso the flat 3 you get there as an open string). Didn't actually click onto the fact that the top three were all just a step down. Got me thinking now...but I think of getting that F into a 1 or 5 and end up with the Kim Thayil pointless tuning I mentioned before LOL

don't be afraid of the deathy vocals at the start he sings in a grandpa fashion soon after. i reckon you'd probably like this sort of stuff. more progressive than the average metal band. acoustic guitars, good arrangements and shit

Honestly, going off that song, I wouldn't buy the album. It was a bit droney. Near the start the parts sounded a bit too busied up - seemed to blur the melodic/chordal structure of the section a bit. The soft bits were kinda gay.("yaaaa-yaaa..." that means eggs in croation LOL)
Then it kicked back in with what sounded like the generic Tool (the band) 3 over 4.
I kinda prefer a bit more balls-to-the-wall...

But yeah I can be pretty nit-picky sometimes eh.
