hey was gonna make a thread about this but just thought i would post in here...

Im just curious as to what Bass guitar set-ups people have...at the moment I have a Musicman Stingray and Behringer 45watt but looking to upgrade the amp really soon

anyway tell all

too easy - just try heaps of second hand ones until you find one that feels good - try them out without plugging in. Then whack some decent pickups in it.

I got an old hohner that got given to me yeeeears ago - good solid heavy piece o' wood that one. Also got some no brander that I made into a fretless ages ago.
Run 'em into a 400 watt Carlsbrough with I think it's a 14 incher in the box.

i believe cobain eventually had a custom fender which was called a Jagstang. its a cross between an SG and a Les Paul
MMr Fox16 Mar 2009
That don't sound right.

got my new axe last week and now im looking at getting some recording equiptment/software. but dont know a single thing about it.....

some one point me in the right direction please?

heaps of options for recording. a popular one is something like this http://line6.com/podstudio/

you get a little interface to plug your axe into then you use the software to dial up a sound and use a program like cubase or nuendo which can be stolen from the internet

fox uses a multitrack recorder and they're a pretty simple way to get it together. you'll need to mike your amp up. http://www.fostexusa.com/index.php?file=products/digital/digital_multitrackers Fostex and Tascam make good ones but pretty sure you can find cheaper ones that will do what you want such as Zoom or Yamaha

finally you can get an audio interface for your computer and steal some software off the net and mike your amp up. you plug the mic into the interface, gain the bitch up and your goin. thats how i do mine, but yeh take your pick

Play metallica st anger stuff.

You'll be a mad cunt
DDonut16 Mar 2009
digi design have some cheap interfaces for recording and come with pro tools

but you might as well use a cracked version of cubase and that way you will save pennys
DDeathMoth16 Mar 2009
believe me or not cubase is a more powerful program than the pro tools you will get with their cheap interfaces...provided you get the right version of cubase

No. You won't.

Yeah this what I got - http://www.coastrecording.com/store/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=42&products_id=207
I got the inbuilt hard drive though - 8gb.
Plus I got the effects card so I got like half a dozen reverbs, and then like 3-4 different versions of your standard effects (like stereo, panning, ping ponged etc on the delays and chorus and flanger and phaser.)
Mic up, set the input gain, then touch it up with the twin sweep eq's on eahc channel.
MMr Fox16 Mar 2009
Oh yeah with the hard drive it gives you 128 virtual tracks on each project, so if you wanna mess around with heaps of overdubs, or remixes or whatever, you can do it without having to go over your master tracks.
It also has an undo button which can be handy if you're umm...a little distracted while your recording.
MmegamanX16 Mar 2009
ok so,

hypothetically, if i was to buy that POD interface and mike my amp up and run it through that. then use a program like cubase or something?

is that the right way i go about it? am i understanding right? haha

nah man if you were to buy a pod interface you'd plug your guitar direct into it. it comes with guitar modelling software that is the same as the pod gear everyone raves about.

if you want to use mikes you can pick up a cheap audio interface with a couple of microphone preamps. you can get super cheap ones these days and many of them come with software recorders. if you're looking for a bargain i think you can get real cheap Edirol ones
DDonut17 Mar 2009
i would agree that pro tools is over rated
DDeathMoth17 Mar 2009
pro tools HD is industry standard and is really what all the hype is about. getting a pro tools LE system is just a waste
DDonut17 Mar 2009
ohh true

didnt know there was HD nd LE

now it all makes sense
