Terry Who?1 Apr 2009hey can anyone help me out
How do you fix the action on an acoustic guitar i want to make it higher cos its too low and its buzzing.
is it worth it or should i just go to a shop to get it fixed?
M
Mr Fox1 Apr 2009Easy way to do it on a cheap guitar with no truss rod - pull out the bridge, cut a strip of paper so that it will fit laying down in the hole where the bridge slots in. Stick the bridge back in. Might need to pack it in more if it's real bad.
Another option, if you've got thin strings - go up a size in your strings and the extra tension on the neck will pull it forward creating a little more arc in the neck.
I'd recommend trying the paper trick first.

invisi8 Apr 2009aldi guitars are shit
get a guitar teacher
and btw epiphones are good i have 2 and i play gigs all the time never anything wrong
M
Mr Fox9 Apr 2009haha yeah the aldi guitars are shit, but for $60 what do you expect? At least it's something to get your fingers moving.
Knocking on heavens door is just G, D, A minor, C
Or you can just fake it with G, D C to start out.
Just find some easy sounding songs you like and grab tablature of the 'net.
What sort of stuff are you into/listen to/wanna play?
TTrogdor the Burninat9 Apr 2009chilli peppers is pretty easy so i recommend trying that and will get your fingers moving with your picking hand good
Black Sabbath - Paranoid was the first song I learnt on guitar.
30 watt vox amp for 200 dollar. Going to talk dad into buying it for me haha.
Got myself an Epiphone Sheraton recently...the hardware is fairly cheap but aside from that it has a nice feel and is definately an improvement over some of their budget hollowbodys, plan on putting some p94's and getting some super O-G single coil Casino tones.

Hamburglar9 Apr 2009i recently got an ibanez ax70, and i run it through some crap little amp with a zoom gfx-707 effects pedal. Sounds pretty good and has a nice feel. Dimebagg and Dean Pleasants are dope.
jackson ps2 performer, 150wt marshall valve.
does the job eh.
although i dont play much now, ive been converted to drums, bummer
how much for your marshall head then?

LDF15 Apr 2009Johno. How long have you been playing?
And to anyone out there beginning, it really does pay of to learn your scales and practice them up and down the neck everyday.
When I started, as most people do, I just wanted to learn song etc, and whenever people said play this scale I was like wtf, but if you get your chords and scales down then you will find later in life you'll shred guitar.
I'm not quite a shredder, but over a 12 month period of constant scales I really have improved greatly. Even when I'm just chilling watching a movie I'll play scales with just my fret hand just to understand the positions and discover new 'patterns'.
HAVE FUN!
Llizard kinggg15 Apr 2009I started off playing Classical, and i really really didn't enjoy it, and after a year or so i talked to my dad and we got an electirc, and i used to alternate between a lesson of classical and a lesson of electric.
Eventually, i stopped doing classical and it has helped me so much by way of understanding scales and i can move my hands alot futher. (I just checked there, i can strech my hand from 5th fret the to 11th.)
So yeah, like LDF said, learn stuff that you might not want to, because in the end it will really really pay off.
M
Mr Fox15 Apr 2009Yeah knowing what scales sound like makes it a hell of alot easier to learn/figure shit out. All your chords and shit are just made up of notes in the scale. If you've got your ear used to what all the notes sound like, it's so much easier to notice when you're playing stuff wrong.
yep scales, modes and chord transfers are the key to understanding the neck of the guitar
look up the CAGED system and learn all your scales in each of the 5 shapes. learn all the triads of each scale in every CAGED shape.
and also learn to move through a scale of triads on every group of strings.
then you know the neck of the guitar
well looky here.
http://www.cagedguitarsystem.net/that page maps the neck out in the CAGED system, key of C. hit me up if you're not getting it
M
Machine15 Apr 2009i've been playing for about 3 years. blues and jazz lessons are the way to go. get you into the whole caged thing pretty early.
i been playing for about 4 years now LDF
i dont know that many scales but im going though all that stuff now with my teacher for year 12 vet music
im currently learning about modes
its good stuff learning what works and what doesn't on a guitar fret board
and deathy ill deff check out that caged system
M
Mr Fox16 Apr 2009That CAGED thing looks like a pretty nifty system.
Personally I just learnt the pentatonic all up and down, then I just fill the gaps depending what modality I want for the song. You get used to it and it kind of becomes second nature.
hey im lookin at buying a Boss Digital Delay 3 pedal and was wondering if anyone knows of anywhere or anyone selling them cheap as im lookin for a good deal
