Thoughts - Sports companies make great skate shoes. I like like good shoes. This makes me happy. More sports companies making skate shoes make it harder for your "traditional skater owned" shoe company to survive. This makes me sad. I am happy and sad.

Correct me if I'm wrong but is New Balance made in England?
I'm down for this seeing as every other shoe is made in Malaysia or china ect.
Pretty good that they're partnering up with a real skate company and hopefully doing things right.
That being said, if the shoes suck, they suck. Have to wait and see...

^^They are a USA owned company who make the majority of their shoes in the usual countries other companies make their shoes.
They also do very limited runs of USA and UK made shoes, which use premium leathers etc. They usually sell for a fair bit more than the regular New Balance, but are usually very very nice.
If they made their skateboarding shoes in either USA or UK, they'd retail for alot more than 99percent of the skateboarding population would be willing to pay for them.

I pretty much agree with drew, I have bashed on the corpo side of skating before but its true that since nike has been in the market shoe quality has much improved in general.

when i first skated i thought skate shoes blew out so quick bcos skating was gnarley on shoes but nike shoes i have rocked always lasted really long. Jamie thomas is a major sellout and i ride mainly lakai anyway so yeah -

so who will be on their aussie team?
Rraphabee11 Dec 2012
They're OK.

At least they are a new company that will sponsor more riders, now that Es has gone kaput.

Does anyone ever BUY Osiris or DVS shoes? How do those companies actually survive?

Seems like 90% of the skate shoes on the street now are Nike or Vans.

That sole better not just be a crappy vulcanised sole. NB has access to a huge amount of running technology, so they really should dig deep and find something light weight and supportive.
Say no to vulcanised sole! (Has a nice ring to it!)
Jjames yo12 Dec 2012
vulc is the worst

Anyone else think they look just like the Volley SS series or whatever they were that came out a while back?

Re how do the other companies survive? Maybe it is different in other areas, and there is more skate interest in shoe brands like DVS or Osiris, but the only people that buy them are not skaters and they get the big or crazy or colourful versions to match their big / crazy / colourful personalities I would imagine.

Oh well, just let them try and see who jumps on that wagon, for as long as they can, before going back to one of the other normal companies.

Not too stoked about this, nor am i pissed off.
Just hope they dont make ugly fluro lad-runners into skate shoes.
Could be some dope shoes given the running technology they could use.

Sports Footwear Company + Skateboarding Influence + Correctly Designed + Paying Skateboarders = All Good in my eyes!!!

Why are these guys any different to Nike, Adidas, Puma and even Vans (who didn't start as a skateboard shoe company, but they went where the demand was)... Good luck to em.
At least there's a genuine skateboard distributor behind them, not some chick in high heels and a power suit walking into a skate shop trying to sell the new "sports brand" shoe...

Good luck Barns
