Got an hour and a half skating the park this morning. Fuckin amazing ! Once it's opened it will be hell as the whole park flows so well once 4 scooter kids are in there collisions are bound to happen. The small pool coping bowl corner with loveseat is so much fun!
your a fucking kook sk8y180, have some respect and wait like everyone else for the park to open or at least wait till the fucking concrete has cured. If i go there and there are lumps/wheel tracks in the trannies im gunna blame your fucked up arse. kook with a capital K
I'm going to go out on the old but everyone elseeee was doing it so it must be ok right???
We did not go near the uncured areas or did not touch any wall that had tape near it, security said people have been doing it for the past 2 days.
And are you going to tell me that as a skateboarder you have never done something you should not have ?
I'll call strait bullshit on that...A chance to have something new and fresh with you and two friends 95% of skaters would take it.

i still do not condone your actions or your screen name
Apparently someone was fined for trespassing there this morning. It's definitely fine to skate though, the transition was poured about 3 weeks ago.
Cheers for waiting till most of summer/daylight savings is over before opening it council. real nice...
definately fine to skate my arse, the flats were only poured mid last week
meh. i coudln't care less if people bum rush it for a skate. and i can easily sympathise being a local to the spot. its like looking at porn and not being able to rip one off...
A quick search tells me 72 hours is all that's necessary before concrete is generally fine to walk on, and I know that back when the coburg mini ramp was built the guy who built it (a skateboarder and professional concreter) was riding it before the flat had even changed colour (as in it still looked wet). I've certainly never heard anyone complain about lumps or wheel tracks on coburg mini...
Apparently the cops charged someone with trespassing....so skate at your own risk....
I went on a preview tour of the park last wednesday afternoon and the size is in line with what I expected 750m2 to be. Another comparison is that I estimate the concrete area of Prahran (not including the two metal ramps) to be 500m2. So as I said before a decent size, but not huge.
I asked someone from the Fulton Hogan construction company about the surrounding paths which are smooth skateable flat ground (with some inclines). There are no plans to install any rails or other obstacles there, on the other hand there won't be any skate stopping devices either and the channels will be filled in with paving. He could see no reason why it shouldn't be skated although it is technically footpath.
So overall the skateable area is more like 1000m2 if the plain flatland is included.
I was very very happy with what I saw, as expected from the artists impression from Convic it is nearly all tranny, but it looked a very imaginative design with some interested rounded hump thing going on in a flat bottomed channel towards the "lower grade" trannied end of the park. It also has delivered the full range of tranny challenge, beginner, intermediate and expert that I had been previously told over a year ago. This sort of complete challenge range is missing from most parks.
Myself I only skate flatland and flat banks, and consider Riverslide with its vast expanse of smooth flatland and variety of banks to be heaven, so I have not personal incentives for this design.
Regarding skating it early, the council told me that Fulton Hogan and themselves will do everything they can to stop that happening such a put sand in the bowls, while the surrounding landscaping is being completed. They also said the police will be called by local residents.
The reason for my involvement is that over two years ago I submitted to the council what was intended to be my one and only 2 cents worth opinion on the way the proposed skatepark design was then being pushed and like everyone who submitted input via the online channels was invited to speak further about it at the council public meetings. However I was astounded at the strength of the objections to having a skatepark from snobbish residents who were saying it would bring nothing except crime and graffiti to the area.
Some of the local residents were being very sly - pretending to be supportive of a skatepark, but suggesting it move to a more suitable place like the "St Kilda triangle" or Fitzroy St when council had previously stated that the triangle was not available for projects of any kind and a previous attempt to get it built at Fitzroy St had failed due to resident objection. Another tactic from the objectors was to try and make out that any debate from skaters over the design was an indication they were very unhappy with not having enough land for all the features they wanted and that somewhere bigger should be found - just another delaying/blocking/nimby tactic. This irritated me sufficiently that I decided to stick out the remainder of the community process.
For those of you that have already tried skating it, it is great to hear you like it and no harm has been done so far - except to the person who got arrested! However, I spoke at the public meetings (something I don't enjoy) pushing the point that skaters are not the trouble makers that the residents were trying to portray them as, so I personally will be much happier if no-one tries to jump the fence any more.
The push for a St Kilda skatepark goes back way longer than the relatively brief time I was involved, however my insider's view is that things are probably not what they seem regarding the council. The council were overwhelmingly in favour of a skatepark because they recognised that all the public facilities they were building were either playgrounds for the very young or outdoor features for the older more sedate generation with nothing in between. I think there might have been some indecision by the skater lobby groups/individuals too, but overwhelmingly the blame for it taking 14 years or more is the snobbish local residents who think that all public spaces should be reserved for walking the dog.
Ultimately what council did was structure the process in such a way that a more fair skatepark consultation would take place and not be entirely overridden by the objectors. In particular councillor Thomann did whatever he could to make sure a high feature skatepark would get through.

anyone know when it will be officially finished?
According to the council website it due for completion by may 2013. Its the landscaping and other facilities that need to be finished.
