Hey deathmoth, the place you are refering to was set up by bob(itchy feet surf store at engadine)and the ramps were built by scott spring. The concrete area next to the cycling track was allocated to skaters through the police boys club at sutho with the hope a permanant structure would soon be put in its place. The cyclists whinged about the skating and had it shut down soon after, but there is a small(super crappy)skate park at the police boys club at sutherland that did eventually come from that first effort at the cycling track...p.s i dont have any photo's

yeh thats the one. i only skated there once when i was holidaying in the shire with my relos. i remember there was a dude who ollied the funbox to boardy down the rail i thought this was the best thing in the world, even better than Corey Websters 64MPH air at the end of Thrashin'. Some guy was being a smart kunt and said he wanted to swap his setup for my little bro's which was just a kmart pile of shit. anyone know who that guy is...now that i'm not 5 yrs old i might fight him haha

yeah DeathMoth,

as boris correctly pointed out, that little park was at the bike track in sutho and only lasted about 4 months due to the attitudes of the bike guys and some silly fence jumping from the skaters.

incidentally, as boris pointed out, the man behind the whole thing was bob from itchy feet surf store in engadine, but what boris didn't add is that the ramp a few pics back in this here thread (gareth shinner doing a rock'n'roll) was originally supposed to go at this skate park.

there was some confusion as to the available space at the roller rink and how big the ramp was and so it wound up going to tim cook's place in engadine. how this happened is beyond me, as tim cook didn't even skate, so why he would have a vert ramp in his yard doesn?t make a lot of sense. i think there were some church dealings involved from memory (a place for the kids sort of thing - perhaps hoogan could add more to this, he had more dealings with that crew than I did)

and that smart arse guy you mentioned in your post may well have been me! i was a cocky little prick when i was younger. not trying to justify my um actions, but most of the crew that skated at that park were 'trend' skaters that had only picked up a board because skating was 'in' again. me and my friends had been with it the whole time, so our tricks were a bit more 'advanced' than those dudes. It doesn't give me the right to be a dick to a stranger, but you do these things when you are young!

we met and skated with some good crew at this little park, mostly engadine and loftus locals. a couple of shredders that stand out were steve tierney and a guy by the name of 'pommy'. these dudes had a mini in a garage in engadine that we would often session if the weather was crap.

it was around this time that i had a small zine cranking called 'happenin style' (circulation: 10) and i ran a short story on their ramp. i gave it a decent review considering what it was: a 6 foot wide indoor mini with flat metal coping, and a roof that you had to hunch down on if standing on the platforms.

anyway to cut a long story short, i had just started to put my zine into local shops, in particular island a'classic in engadine. of course these guys saw the story and the next time we rocked up on a wet saturday arvo to session, i was set upon and beaten to a pulp. my board was snapped in half in front of me, i was kicked to the ground and punched in the head and to top it off, i was king hit to the shin with a 169 indy swung by some guy i didn't even get to see. all told i was beaten by at least 6 guys. i still have a meaty scar to this day on my left shin from this incident, and i still wonder why it happened. i was beaten up by fellow skaters? what the fuck? the week before we had been in their living room eagerly watching ban this and learning pivot to fakies on the tight 1/4 pipe next to the ramp! perhaps steve could shed some light on this matter? (and i will say that he was not one involved in the beating, a guy called shaun vickory and that 'pommy' cobber were the main offenders)

anyway, the whole point of this post was that the little bike track street park was a good fun place to skate, but it didn't last long.

I would be more worried about the poeple standing around you than a blood clot that could kill Cam.

Gee that pic of Gibbo brings back some damn funny memories. Oh the stories I could tell about the shenanigans that went on at "The Ramp", but they're all rated XXX. I could probably post some pics.

Hey Benon. I have a lot of footage from St Marys and Fairfield. Oh! And Bondi vert ramp too.

Sorry cam but i can't agree with the old bondi vert ramp sentiment it was slow, had a tiny transition and stainless steele coping that was loose and slow as well. There were some fun sessions there but the new park just blows all that away.Hey getrad you are one in a long line of skateboarders who originated from that area so never forget TO OBEY THE OBAY son and keep up the good work.

I think it's Emma on the right, & one of the Hurstville boyz on the left, think it might be Zelko' ? But then again I don't think Zelko would wear a pink pro-tec....heh-heh-heh

thanks for those cam, even though the era is slightly before mine, i can still find a nostalgic moment in nearly all those pics!

get rad, there are more oyster bay pics, plenty more in fact - so stay tuned... and if you live in oyster bay and are skateboarding, as boris stated, you are in a LONG line of amazing skateboarders and it your duty to dig out the oyster bay oval car park curb, paint it red and learn slappies ala matt spring!

deathmob i don't have any pics from the sutho park, be good to see some if anybody else has any hidden away? i remember there was a jump ramp to table top type thing that i learnt nose manuals across that really stoked me, other than that, the quaters and what not were nothing to write home about from memory... the surface was fast and smooth for long manual lines however!
