well give u a few hours to read over the posts and slowly analyze them. theres only a page, is that enough time to comprehend whats going on?

I forgot to mention when doing the timber edging, use a string line level to make sure everything is level.
You could add a little angle to the whole steup to allow any rain to run off it when it rains.

Also those timber stakes (20x20 from cheap as chips bunnings etc).....you can cut them down to say 300mm long and resharpen the ends to get the most out of a pack and save $$$$)


PRE CEMENT TIME.....

Money is a factor on how this is done, so is the amount of people helping and how strong they are .

You will need a long straight edge to screen the flat (and quarters if you want as well as baked parts off.

Ideally you want the edging (that 20x20 pine you bought) to all sit level on each side so you can rest that straight edge ontop when screening
(or a piece of steel fence post if you dont wanna spend $90-$100)

Make sure those 20x20 wooden stakes that are holding the edging are on the outside and hammered lower than the top of the edging.

You will need a finishing trowel, an edging trowl and a trowel for doing expansion joints if you want to do the whole setup in one go.
If you just want to do say the stairs.... then later the middle....then later a bank or quarter, you won't need it.
But ideally most slabs need a join every say 4 or 5 feet to allow for movement.
Pouring it in sections over weeks eliminates the need to do these joints by hand on a big area, but will take longer to get the whole ting done.

Other tools needed....one or pref. two wheel barrows (unless the guy can drive his truck up to the site on pour straight in), one or two shovels, a hose and sprayer .

Now some people mix the cement themselves in bags (DO NOT MIX ON GROUND BY HAND, YOU WILL DIE) with a hired or borrowed mixer.......
If you have someone who knows aht their doing and have 5 or 6 peeps , thats cool.
But buying bags or buying the ingredients to mix together on site is one more thing to worry about.

I'd say depending on the size of the job , get a mini truck.
Call up the company, tell them what your doing and if their cool give them the job measurements (stairs and banks and quarters order more cement)...

Shop around for quotes.....some peeps will rip you off so sound like you know what you want.

Banks and quarters can be filled with old bricks and anything ceramic.

eg length x width x depth and ask them to quote you before ordering.
When you are ready to order pick a day that isn't overly hot, nor raining and aim to do the job around 7-9 am.

NEXT -POURING DAY AND THE JOYS OF FINISHING IT SMOOTH.

I know shit all as far as learning. All my family did it as a trade and I had to help.
The most I have done is a large area for a rainwater tank for the old lady.

You think skaters talk shit, teh constrcution trade is far worse and I'm sure there are folks here or on Charliedontskate who will point out what I have written that is wrong.

But at the end of the day, getting someone to build you even a manual pad will cost you a shitload and there are fuckers who ahve a license who will kindly fuck that job up as good as you could.

Good people in the building trade (plumbers, chippies, concreters, tilers) are scooped up to build high end luxery homes.
The rest are either stuck in a shit job for shit pay and dont care, or their perfectly happy to rip poor people off such as pensioners.

/rant....you can only learn through expirience and fucking up, so start small.
