My insider tells me the thing holding the park up is the deed of variation (an agreement all parties sign about changes to the parklands not the skate park) and it will be signed this week. (by 8-8-14) Things should start happening from then......Hmm. Deja vu.
Apparently Breens, the guys paying for the whole development including the skate park, have been stalling for no particular reason other than they had no dictated dead lines so they've been keeping their money in their pockets instead of getting on with the job. 25 mil in your pocket sounds pretty good, eh
EARTHWORKS HAVE STARTED! After shitloads of effort from all the different groups that have hit up council for more than 20 years, the Cronulla park has finally started. I went out there this morning after an insider gave me a heads up. The reckon it will be finished Speptember / October, THIS YEAR.
By the look of that excavator, I think this park is being built by snowboarders
They've cleared the whole area and prep work of the park is happening
The park is just across from the Kurnell Peninsula sign just before the new roundabout.
Convic are on site at the Cronulla (Kurnell) skate park.
Today is inductions day and then they will start work after only 24 years.
one week in and despite all the rain there's form work going in. Sorry about the quality of the pics but I can't get any closer
Thanks for keepingus updated Champion

Loads and loads more progress pics thanks to Cobast
Latest news is that the park SHOULD be open to everyone from Wednesday the 21st October after the legals are all signed up on Monday. There won't be a formal opening event till Jan or Feb next year when all the landscaping is done.
So from Wednesday you can go in to the car park from the roundabout instead of parking on Captain Cook Dr.
There won't be any toilets or water for a few weeks yet.
In the mean time there is fencing separating the carpark and skatepark from the construction areas and council will be putting in some garbage bins and prob some gear for getting the windblown sand out of the park.
Keep an eye out for Marty
It's good to see the Sutherland Shire finally get a decent park at Greenhills, but given the location is quite some distance from Cronulla, I'd say the Cronulla Skate Park battle has only just began.
So far it seems like only good vibes at the new park, and I think this may help build a business case for another park in a more accessible location.
