I get the feeling we won't be getting a response from Trev...after all, he's certified himself as the biggest arsehole in town with that public anti Tangent rant.

Trev NIL, Tangent 1

Where's ole Mullbaws when we need him, I want to hear his slant on the terrible things that have occurred here. We'll get the full background including the real demise of Australias beloved iconic Dunlop footwear shenanigans. We want answers Trev! Answers! No actually we don't fucken care.

Tangent reminds me of a poor mans crampy. Crampy would kick his ass in a game of skate.

Hey Imgne, troy did mention tiny ass wheels (bearing covers).

And I hope its not seriously being suggested that international riders didn't get paid by Stussy. Huf, Scott Johnson etc featured in large advertising campaigns. They weren't doing that for the love, I'm sure they got paid well.

yahbrian,
when stussy was in it's skate heyday in the states and had a proper team with those legends on and also guys like eldridge and others then yeah they would have been on proper deals, etc, but years ago when they dissolved it all they still just do the product thing to those that are down with them...

Yeah, a public forum is not the best place to have bitter arguments about 'what went wrong'...but it makes for interesting reading.

the skateboarding industry is lacking as it is, then when you get FAKES who lack experience from and knowledge which may be no fault of their own it affects people and companies around them.

long time reader, first time poster.

I've been reading these forums for years and never bothered to post. But this one is too good.

I worked in the industry for shops and as a rep for about 10 years. Trev has a point. It is very hard for skateboarders to get paid a decent wage in Australia. There is an expectation that they will work because the 'lifestyle' is great.

I remember working 10 hour days for an absoulte pitance. At times (especially as a rep) it felt like i was just 'moving units' and there was very little connection to the 'lifestyle'. The 'lifestyle' was best when you could steer clear of the industry stuff and just have fun. Like working in a shop!

The skateboard industry in Oz has never paid well, and is full of lots of amazing people who do even more amazing jobs. In my current industry, we have unions who look after us. Where is the skateboarding workers union?

With the money being made (and to be made) from skateboarding, it is still amazing that it is run like a local milk bar.

Tangent could be the nicest guy in the world and I certainly dont hate you as a person. I cant pass judgement on his personality as such and obviously he is a nice guy for doing things for free. I am stating that he works for free which is something that effects our industry by large companies such as Adidas, Stussy and Converse getting free consultation. Why should these companies be given inside knowledge of the skate industry for free. I constantly read and hear how people hate on these companies but then you support a guy that gives them the in to our industry for free!!!! Why support someone that does not support our industry. He is making sure a few skaters get some product. Wow that is fucking amazing! That really helps out the industry. Sponsorship is important but why are these skaters getting ripped off as well. Think about it. If the Team Manager is not going to get Paid then why would said companies think about paying a kid on skateboard!

The biggest sell outs in this industry are the people who do things for nothing. I can understand that you want to be associated with the coolest skate companies, who earn a lot of money but doing it for free is pathetic. I dont care if you get paid $100 a month but at least set a standard to know that shit you have to be paid to do this. It only makes it better for skateboarding.

As far as skaters that you look up to not getting paid...You are fucking tripping. While I was in the USA I was skating with Pierre Luc and his board and previously shoe on Osiris dont sell for shit but he was driving an Audi A8 w12, have a look how much these sell for. People are making Bank from skating. Our industry in Australia is 1% of the USA so there is no comparison. The guys on Stussy all made money and I can guarantee that none of them rode for free. That is straight up Bullshit! When Stussy USA decided to pull the pin then everyone bailed but contracts need to be paid out and people have obligations thats why it doesnt just stop as a company.

Some people work for free, that's life and that's business and it's been going on in the commercial world since the year dot, it's not just exclusive to skateboarding.

If a skate company, or any company for that matter, can't survive because of the effects of someone working for free then they don't deserve to be in the industry.

If your service or product is strong enough then someone working for free isn't going to stand in the way of your sales.

These unpaid industry guys only do damage to those who don't have the product/service or skills to make it happen...there are bigger factors that prevent start ups getting off the ground than people working for free. Stop being a victim and blaming your failures on others.
