Brian I am no Victim. You need to get over Volley's it was an example that was used. Maybe I should have used one of the many that I am not personally attached too. I was paid very well from Volleys and because of the way I set up my dealings I will still be paid by Volleys for quite some time. I can't be bitter about this. I am stoked I learnt a lot was paid more than most people get paid a year by one sponsor and in the end it was stopped but I still covered all my bases and signed into long contracts!
If you knew me you would know that I have been pushing this for a long time (over 10 years) with a lot of other skaters and people in the Industry. In the USA skaters took the power back off people such as George Powell that never skated.How do you think Plan B, Girl, DC and many companies started. Look where George Powells company sits now. Sure he still makes a lot of money but will never make the same amount of money again due to skaters controlling the industry and setting standards for pay. It is that simple.

It sounds like you want to control which companies get a slice of the skateboarding market share. From what you’ve said companies which are run by skaters get the thumbs up and those companies that don’t fall into this category can fuck off (and I don't totally disagree). I hear what you’re saying but it’s never going to happen. It’s a pipe dream to think that skateboarding should and will be run as some cottage industry, it’s not realistic and not modern.

I don't see the people doing things for free as a bad thing.
Nowhere near as bad as, say a large company who instead of providing local manufacturers with a job, send their contracts off to China to get poorly paid factory workers do put together their (usually) inferior products.

I never said that the stussy guys were never paid in america like i said again in a later post of course during the heyday when there was a proper program set up they got paid.. but since they stopped the program years and years ago, everyone that's associated with stussy (those OG guys) are getting product and thats it and are free to pursue whatever they want.... montoya is an og stussy guy but is on tour with elwood right now. you're saying that you guarantee that no one rode for free back then, and i totally agree. i know they didn't. but you were having a go at me about NOW and this current year...

in a simular topic i was talking to a shop owner who has been involved a bit in the industry for quite sometime, he was saying its going to weird to see what happens to skateboarding in the next 5 or so years with the financial crisis and all, i particulary remember him saying 'you probably don't want to hear this, but its the small companies that will kill skateboarding, just like it did to rollerblading'

Just a thought but in these Harsh Economic Times (tm) if someone would actually got to Stussy and say "um, how about paying me for doing this job" would it be entirely unfeasible to suggest they'd say "get the fuck outta here"?
Stussy is for sale now as it doesn't turn over the $14 million Quota that has to be achieved to be a viable company by Pac Brands. Stussy is pretty much done unless it gets bought by someone! A year ago there was no problem getting paid. Pac Brands was so free and easy with their money hence the issues they have now. When it was owned by Globe they paid a TM and they also put money into advertising and creating something, with that great introduction to Bryce Golder, Kurt Winter and Nath Oliver. Although they could have paid their riders a lot better! Wish Al was still there he got paid from what I remember!

Stussy are not a real skate company. They are a big fashion brand who happen to have a small skate team, just to enter the fashion market.
