i hope it gets in.. and australia sends duncombe and dollin. they proceed to spend the whole event drinking dont even compete and it gets taken out immediately

either that or drug testing will get every single pro done in a second

It brings greater exposure to the sport, gives it a more wholesome image, which attracts a greater number of participants into the sport, boosting the profits of skate companies and allowing them to support more talented skaters. An increase in exposure also means that councils will take it seriously, building proper parks for the progression of an olympic sport, rather than cheap playpens for rebellious teens. having said that though, i always saw the olympics as a celebration of humans physical achievement at their most basic level, meaning track and field rather than complex sports with extraneous variables.

Can't see it happening, what would they be judging on in vert and/or street?
Can't really go for any time based records either

Ah, this old debate.

Personally, I don't want to see skateboarding subsumed into a lame commercial gimmick, just like the other Olympic sports. Fuck that. The Olympics is a jock cliche festival that's primarily a cashcow for advertisers and the corrupt IOC.

It should be up to the skaters. If there was a poll of pro skaters, I suspect that the majority would vote AGAINST participating in the Olympics.

Sure, the skate companies want the Olympics for financial reasons. But it should be up to the skaters.

That's a fair point because the Olympics is usually a time based thing.

Skating in the Olympics would fucking rule! Especially if its like the maloof money cup. You clowns saying that skating should remain core and not be commercialised have your heads in the fucking sand man its already packed with that shit! Car companies, foodchains and every big sports shoe company sponsor straight up shameless jocks like Sheckler and flying tomato! Its an unstopable wave.
I pretty much only watch the Olympics for the track and field but now I'll get to watch crew blast airs for a gold medal instead of a lanky white english 10k walking poofter!
