traditionally the olympics are for amateurs ... so technically no pros should be aloud to enter anyway ...

WSJ: What do you think of the idea of skateboarding in the Olympics?

Danny Way: I really pray that skateboarding doesn't go to the Olympics, and there's a lot of reasons why. I just feel like the Olympics need us more than we need them. I don't think it's going to bring any more opportunities except for maybe a Wheaties commercial.

Our skate community is so solid. The industry is so solid. I don't think skateboarding getting associated with the 50-yard dash or pole vaulting or water ballet or whatever it is -- it doesn't fit in there.

Chip! Im well aware that the olympics is worldwide and it will be guys from the US who are really pushing for it to happen . I do find it funny though that a fruit booter is the one guy who is trying to get on the committee to be the aussie representitive .

wouldnt it be Slalom?

That's a fair point because the Olympics is usually a time based thing.

diving, shooting, weightlifting, archery, tennis, badminton, soccer ect aren't time based.

Danny can blurt shit like that out because hes one of the highest paid pros on the fucking planet! Hes not think of the exposure and job offers Olympic coverage would give to pros who do it on a shoestring! (like Renton)

Shaun White, pro snowboarder and olympic gold medalist. Pros can enter.

Skating in the Olympics...fuck yeah!

Look at the majority of Australian Olympians. They are not making big money. It's only the gold medallists who get the lucrative endorsements. I don't know anybody who skates for money anyway. If you want to make money, then go to university. The best skaters all do it for the love.

Skateboarding is about style and originality. I don't want to see the media saying that Ryan Sheckler or P-Rod is the 'best skatboarder in the world', just because they win the stupid gold medal. The Olympics won't represent real skateboarding.

But it will represent skating as a sanitised competition dominated by idiotic national rivalries.

And the media spotlight will mean that inevitably, some pro skaters will get 'busted' doing drugs and then lose their corporate sponsors. Most skaters are not keen to join the Olympics. It's not always about money.

it's been said a million times and someone's prob already said it in this thread (just skimmed through it) but even if skating somehow gets into the olympics pretty much everyone will get disqualified from failed drug tests haha
although i reckon if you get caught with weed in your system you should get some sort of bonus added to you in any sport, that shit is def not a performance enhancing drug unless its like a hot dog eating contest...

anyone remember that footage in pritchard vs dainton where that guy is on that podium receiving his "award" in front of hundreds of people and pulls out his cock and starts pissing in his own mouth?

i dont think it would work. all sports that require a judge is always suss when it comes to the olympics. even gymnastics. the olympics should always be fatest, highest, strongest, most etc. etc. and not left up to someones personal opinion.
but it would be awesome to see renton drop into a vert ramp wearing green and gold spandex.

I dig it when they get retired athletes from different sports, like Andrew Gaze for basketball, to commentate and give their opinions during the coverage of the event, any suggestions for skateboarding?...

That's the stupidest thing I've ever read. What's your problem? I didn't write anything about you. I don't know or care who the hell you are.

I didn't bag anybody. I merely gave my opinion about skateboarding in the Olympics (like everybody else on this thread). Why do you take it personally?

I seriously was 110% against it..

But what's the difference between straight edge street skaters training for a trick then take it to a street spot to get the 'gnarliest' photo/footy and training for the olympics??

I say fuck it, if you don't like it, keep up your internet posts..
