Why in the fuck is this not an anonymous vote? This is just making me so angry. It's seriously just turning people against each other. Sure, the more sought after will win, just gay having to see people try to rub shit in each others faces when people feel passionately about one park

can't please everybody. I'd say street option will bring more people for a longer time period but hey this is my first post here.

I agree 100% Jack. It is a divisive and clumsy way to do it. Anonymous, measurable and transparent would have been ideal. I guess now it's a matter of time and this was the best they could do. I don't want to be seen as "that guy who killed the plaza!"
The bowl design street can be tweaked a bit and for me that would be ideal. I still think the next meeting should be the real decider.

Its not that its just a plaza being killed, its basically the only chance for one of these to exist inner city. At least til one inner city site is outdated and revamped. The bowl, which to my understanding is to attract world class competitions and people who are willing to travel to skate it, can literally be situated anywhere if that is the case.
Christopher Hallam put it perfectly in this statement -
This is not a proper forum for local Moreland community users who will populate the facility on a daily basis. It's more a lot of comments from people well outside the area thinking what they want not what would best represent the community and it's target demographic. Brunswick is not Knox. It hosts some of the best street skaters in Melbourne not Pedro fucking Barros. "Wont someone please think of the kids!!!!"

Lot of Northern suburbs crew skate tranny (and everything else) A hell of a lot.
Instead of working together (by say improving the street area of the bowl) we are divided and working against each other.
This whole thing is a bit of a mess. It is a lot of money. There is a process in place based upon direct community involvement and best practice. A significant proportion of the most vocal opponents to the process didn't show up. The meetings were constructive and there was consensus. the last meeting was all about improving the street section and now this.
After 26 years of successfully lobbying for skateparks this is the last project I am going to be involved in.

The street version is way better than the bowl one, it seriously just looks like Newport with a bigger bowl and a few minor tweaks. At least the street one looks interesting. I don't think there is any need to be negative about the whole process and Josh I am sure that there are just as many people that skate street as tranny in the Northern Suburbs, I don't really understand where this notion comes from that there are less street skaters or skaters that want to skate street type parks. There's certainly nothing to be upset about when you have asked peoples opinion and it doesn't coem back exactly as you would like. As for the whole Facebook thing that is ridiculous- anyone ever heard of Survey Monkey? That would have been a much better and fairer option to ask people their opinion.

Yes it's process not opinion that I am so bummed on, the division it creates.

Fair enough, though I don't think it creates division- if the two options could be combined the version could be potentially better and everyone would be happy. It just seems that it is either bowl or street and no compromise, the bowl version looks bland and the street version looks crowded. Though that being said the street version looks a lot better than the bowl option.

What really sucks about this is that it is now skater v skater.
Anonymous online voting is fine, but the votes "harvested" from the those that are not locals should not have anywhere near the same value as the votes collected from those attending the consultation meetings. And anyone that attends with a council rate-notice, or rent bill, should have 10 times the voting power!
Next time a skate park is suggested, get off your arses and attend the consultation meetings, and make sure that this crap never happens again.

Why not use the street park, but get rid of the basketball ring and put the bowl there? Also, why do these idiots design 2x of the same thing in a park?
I’ve added my comments:
BOWL option: - Bowl shape and size is really cool, but the rests of the park sucks. - there are 2x miniramp 3/4 bowls which are the same size. What is the point of having 2x of the same thing? - way too many curved ledges (1 or 2 is good, but otherwise flat ledges are always better – the designer obviously liked drawing circles)
STREET option – Good stuff: - Shaped many pad section is cool, and works well in the centre because it’s approachable from all sides - A-frame/gap obstacle is way better combined with the wallride - seating with curved ledges look really fun - ramps against the graffiti wall utilise the existing space which is good
STREET Option – Things that suck: - NO BOWL! - No enough room to stand when waiting for hubbas and rails - hubba next to the pentagon doughnut is only approachable from one side (although there is 2x of these hubbas, only 1x is necessary but needs to be positioned better) - the banks around the pentagon doughnut look too steep to actually get up onto the doughnut. - section between the basketball area seems pointless
yes it was very dumb to turn everyone against each other. It's a shame the bowl dudes are gonna miss out because that bowl looked sick.

I want the bowl but damn that street section next to it looks boring as fuck. I love skating tranny but a giant bowl and fuck all street section doesn't make for an inviting skatepark, just means that you're wasting a lot of space.

I agree that the street section for the bowl option isn't real interesting and seems to lack inspiration. The new park in Freemantle utilises elements, many in a similarly narrow area, which could be incorporated to make the street section much more interesting. For example, the bank with the inset brick ledges, the hip with the extensions and the eurogap up the stairs are all things which could be incorporated into the existing plans.

It really doesn't make sense to me how if we choose the bowl option 'it pleases everybody' where as the street option only please some people.
The bowl option isn't going to please both types of skaters like has previously been mentioned. The transition riders receive the bowl of their dreams and then the people who want a street plaza receive a boring/ poor excuse for a skatepark next to the bowl.
I highly doubt that if the street section was well designed and incorporated a bowl there would even be an argument. The only options present at the moment are a good bowl/ shit street park or a good street park.
Is there really no way to have both?

after seeing how the "vote" was swaying, all i can say now is that i hope the street elements get fixed on the bowl design, and it doesn't get any more tranny added.

"And I, for one, welcome our new bowl demon overlords"
Excellent- bet most of us can't wait to have another Coburg park in the next suburb to the existing Coburg park...
