This is my first post on the forum, haven't really found reason to in the past, but this is something I'm passionate about. Seems to be a a few misguided and strange opinions goin' on. Some positive stuff, some crappy stuff...While everyone is entitled to their say, obviously, I think a few peoples comments are plain wrong. I've been a Coburg local for about 8 odd years now and skate the bowl 3-4 times a week. Sometimes alone, most of the time not. I've skated it with quite a large age demographic (very valid points made by Wedge), with folks from all over the world and have made some great friends there. While I love the bowl, it is a pool replica (well kinda, has pretty nice transitions compared), and is only 8 ft deep. Most bowls around inner Melbourne ( St Kilda, Northcote etc) don't go over 8ft. A proper vert bowl in inner Melbourne would be awesome. A comparison just can't be made between these parks and the proposed plans for Brunswick. People have been saying that a bowl only works on a beach?? Huh??? I just don't get that one... California didn't have a bowl on the beach at all until recent times and ain't that the birthplace of skateboarding?? I think there's plenty of room in the budget to cater for everyone. I dig skating everything, but just having a plaza doesn't really make much sense either, don't we live in one of the best cities for street skating in the country and it's just 2ks down the road?? Anyone who skates shoulda been pretty damn excited when they saw those plans for that clover really, how could you not, looks fuckin' rad as. I will be at the next meeting and have made sacrifices to make myself present at all the meetings. Also, just gotta say fuckin' well done to Josh for keepin' everyone in the loop with this.

It seems the problem is, like i said before, that we don't have a world class bowl or world class street course in Melbourne. Unfortunately neither park can cater to the other form of skaters needs and were in a crap predicament where neither party can understand the necessity for the opposing parties park compared to the value of their own.

I just think the relevance in this day and age for a street park will cater more for the youth skaters/future skateboarders (its all about the kids innit) and also cater to a more present day style of skating (don't we want to progress forward with that in melbourne?). Not to mention the area, which has a solid foundation of street spots and street skater, being really perfect for this operation. Its a shame that its come down to bowl dogs vs sidewalk surfers, but as much as a bowl in melbourne would be cool for a fair few crew (and I'm all for having both) and the old fellas are like "nah, nah, well use it if its good", its just gonna be a damn shame if one of the core suburbs of melbournes street skate scene doesn't get any street course at all to represent itself with. Its not that I don't think a bowl won't get use, they both will, its just more the mabo ya know.

And I also think comments against people for the street park for being more dismissive of the other party is unjust. You guys have the option of your bowl or your bowl plus kinda average street course that would get less use by all skaters collectively than if it was good, and we have the option between rad street course or kinda average street course with a bowl we would hardly use.

Sure theres been a lot of negative comments that didn't really need to be outlined, but just saying you guys kinda have a sweeter deal.

300sq ft for 10 different little ledges?

RE: Brunswick Skatepark 2013 You could circle the obstacles you like most in those parks (in the case of Stoner that has been done at the consultations) If you incorporated the obstacles into a space surrounding the bowl everyones needs could be catered to. Ledges and kickers and flatbars are not expensive really I don't see why there can't be both.

There are a hell of a lot of people that wan't to skate something over 4ft.

You could easily create an area the same obstacles in less space.

^^^^I watched that before. Heading there in September. Dreamland know how to build a park. Everything flows, big mix of obstacles & sizes.

I think our scope and vision in Australia is very limited. Everyone wants easy and predictable. I look at that New York park and see some great obstacles and sure it looks fun. It isn't a place that building and keeping speed is a priority high on the list. I guess that is to me what can make a good design. Do the obstacles naturally link together or are you pushing in between everything. We all skate different and have different likes and priorities. That is why meeting up together and sharing ideas by drawing on drafts and sharing pictures in a discussion is so much more productive than online.

There is always a diverse and wide range of skaters at the meetings, hopefully we see more of you there next time. If you have shown interest/passion in this thread than you owe it to yourself to take the small amount of effort required and turn up.

Have a good roll today

Having a larger flat ground area between and around obstacles allows a bit of room to breath, take clifton hill as an example of what happens when you cram a plaza style park into a bike path worth of space. I feel like if you're having both the plaza would just be crammed around the deck of the bowl, at least put in a wider area around the deck so everyone has room to skate something and from more than 1-2 angles. You've posted the bowl at HB Josh but you didn't show how much bigger the street section is that sits next to it. most of the clips from the launch I've seen focus a little more street wise. There's always going to be more crew on the street then in the bowl. (In brunswick thats defiantly whats going to happen)

Throw down a concrete slab and give the rest of the money to locals to build whatever they want. Everyone loves DIY right?

Here is the link to cast your vote.

Brunswick Skatepark is in it's final stages. 2 designs are being put to a vote. The bowl design caters to a wider and more diverse range of skaters, and is in line with the consultations. These consultations started 2 years ago. The bowl will enable Melbourne to hold world class events, such as Bondi Bowlarama and still cater to skaters that want to progress on transition as well as street. So get voting for what you prefer. If you vote, and live in Melbourne and don't show up for the next meeting it is pretty lame I reckon

RE: Brunswick Skatepark 2013 Clover with revised street. Diverse, caters to everyone. Who knows maybe those of you who don't skate anything over 4ft might give it a go and enjoy it?

RE: Brunswick Skatepark 2013 Here is the street option. More limited in respect to events, a wider range of skaters and those wanting to progress all parts of there skating. But hey it's up to you. Many obstacles in this design are on the first design, except it has a big flat area an awesome clover could fit in.

RE: Brunswick Skatepark 2013 Overview. Anyhow get voting on the designs and I look forward to meeting heads at the next consultation. Either way, it is great for Brunswick

The street section in the bowl revision is pretty underwelming. They completely scrapped the stairs with rail and hubba, no sub ledges on the banks, hip looks awkward to hit, no flyout/down blocks or rails. Kicker to kicker into the bank and nugget flatbar looks good but i've got to vote for the full street course which combines those with a lot of other stuff i like.

To be quite honest... both look kinda boring. I'd go the bowl over the full street anyday though.
