RE: Brunswick Skatepark 2013 Ok so there are some ledge ideas for discussion. Once we sort out these simple essentials we can move on to the unique stuff. Generally I am recieving good feedback about the Clover idea so any thoughts or tweaks to that would be great.

Flat bar wise a round one could be good for a change. Long enough to to tranfers and even hit twice. Newport seems good, perhaps a little longer? Pic attached, couldn't find one with a skater!

RE: Brunswick Skatepark 2013 Oh and Drew a few bumps/boobs in the path bit would make a huge difference to how it flows.

Feedback that has pooped up a few times now is a ledge/spinecombo such as in page 1 of the belco sample sketched titled "Low 1/4 with Kerb".

Seems a popular idea. Feedback about raw concrete ect being too brittle noted, what if the kerb could be replaced easily with the locals in sharge of it? Still prefer coping? What about large diameter metal coping as an alternatuve?

Like in the pic but with whippy tranny.

RE: Brunswick Skatepark 2013 *Half the length and width refering to the Clifton ledges. Noticing a few typo's, trying to get this done at work.

Idea for the kicker placement with a rosebud style flatbar alternative, kerbledge like the obove pic or regular square flatbar

RE: Brunswick Skatepark 2013 Ledges: I prefer concrete with metal edging. They make less noise, don't get really hot in the summer and aren't as slippery with a bit of moisture or excessive wax from lipslides as metal ledges do
As much as you may or may not want bikes in the park, I know a park in Brunswick will have alot of bmxers interested as there is a big population around Collingwood and Preston etc. The low ledge at Clifton hill is too low for pegs, whereas the low side of city park L block isn't. I think thats something to look into if you're going to make a low ledge. A concrete ledge with metal edge doesn't suffer half the peg damage as a straight concrete or marble ledge. THe bmx population at citypark has increased a heap over the last couple of years and it has held up quite well with the extra abuse. I know there may be some wear about 10cm in from the edge of the ledge from the edge of pegs, but I don't see that any different to the axle holes that always develop over time before and after a ledge from skateboards.

If you're going with the 'skate path' setup, there needs to be a bank or quarter at the end of the path. It helps to indicate the end of the skatepark to the general public (so they stay out of the way)and also lets you turn around and head back. If Clifton Hill had a small bank/quarter instead of the wood seats, I think it'd get more use than it does now from those that aren't interested in ledges only, especially since the all terrain guys are pretty in vogue right now.

With the use of a red bench like in The Berrics screen grab. COuld you make it out of the plastic stuff that the long ledge in the northern suburbs is made of? Attached a photo for confirmation of the ledge I'm talking about. I know its got some heavy sessions from both bmxers and skateboarders, and its still going strong.

RE: Brunswick Skatepark 2013 In regards to flatbars, this one at Berwick is good except for it being so close to the edge of the concrete. Similar height to Newport, just longer.
It looks shorter than it really is in real life.

^^^The ledge beside the rail and the one off in the far left hand corner is a perfect example of something that should have been steel edged.

RE: Brunswick Skatepark 2013 Good ideas and points Moccos. City park has stood the test of time. That spot is cool, if we could be supplied with replacement plastic bits to fit later on that could be sweet.

As far as the path thing I invisaged it linking up to itself for endless lines (unlike clifton) A single entrance path to stop kids/people wandering onto the skate path with a obstacle I sketched up to filter people and double as a feature and signage. I will scan in my sketch later on as a suggestion.

With the path having corners and direction changes we can really make it flow and be fun.

An idea for a direction change feature I have highlighted in green

I must have missed the bit about it being a circuit. Endless lines are good, as long as it has a start/finish, where people may sit and to stop people going around and around and around with no care in the world. The entrance is the most obvious choice for this.
The kicker to kicker with a berm quarter on the outside could work so you don't have to do the gap everytime you're trying to get around the corner. Something similar to the bottom corner of Croydon, but maybe a bit steeper?
See below (best photo i could find), but steeper and without the back of it, assuming there wouldn't be another path coming from behind?

berwick is another example of a solid skatepark in my eyes.

the curb on the ledge at cherry is also fun (photo you posted josh). but as it's just concrete it is destroyed and pretty hard to do anything but slides on. would be better as a flatbar.

as far as ledges go. prahran, clifton hill and riverside have suitable ledges that work.
flatbars - newport, berwick, riverside, croydon

RE: Brunswick Skatepark 2013 I think we are making some progress. Croydon cnr looks cool, haven't been out there yet. Flatbar at rivers in the old spot was great.

Turf clover for more vibe. Jeff Phillips

RE: Brunswick Skatepark 2013 Gotta give you a boot up the arse.

Long time since I last checked into this thread. This thread is a transparent and completely open process of consultation. 6 months or so before the consultations with contractors and council and not one post.

If you are too apathetic to contribute, share this thread on social media to your mates that might be more pro active. Wouldn't it be great to be in a position where as we are the representatives of the Melbourne skateboard community have discussion with council and the various tenders that submit tender applications?

Click on the links below when you have time. Of course it would be good to have an Aussie contractor, but explore the links

www.teampain.com
www.convic.com
www.premiumskatedesigns.co.nz
www.skateparks.net.au
www.concrete-skateparks.com
www.grindline.com
www.newlineskateparks.com
www.oasisskateparks.com.au

Please add links to this list. The list is off the top of my head and I am sure I have missed some rad construction crews.

When looking at the links think about dealing directly as the skaters to builders. If I were a contractor I would be jumping at the opportunity. Please feel free to contact people here to discuss if you are a skate park builder. Please understand we are lobbyists only and have no decision making powers.

I see a few good people contributing. Keep it up and you others get amongst it. This could be one of the best things to happen to Australian skateboarding, or at least has the potential.

Strength in numbers, have your say.

Rather than talking about the "Flowy plaza path with DIY inspired obstacles" I would rather you watch the first 2 lines of this clip. Then watch the whole clip.

Im in europe at the moment and i spent a bit of time in sweden. malmo is where those DIY spots are along the train line. that spot is so gnarly and difficult to skate it really made me appreciate the time and effort those dudes put into building their own spots. theres like 5 within a 5 min skate between each one

Yes Mocco's I think tequila happened. Bit of a rant! Certainly not directed at people contributing.

Strange this is, my spelling was better.

RE: Brunswick Skatepark 2013 sounding really good so far. would love a small manny pad with a flat bar on the side of it

Philly style bump over bar (wheelchair ramp) would be a great street obstacle, havent really seen a park with one aside from the weird little moveable one at ramp-it, which aint too flash IMO.

RE: Brunswick Skatepark 2013 I know people are looking for unique obstacles and im definitely down for it altough it would still be sick to have some hubbas like the ones pictured (berrics outdoor park in l.a)....

RE: Brunswick Skatepark 2013 Hey Henerz something like this? If you removed the stairs it could be a cool obstacle. Removable bar?

Nice idea Simofish.

^^you could have a hinge on the bar so it can be moved from the side to the front, so you can grind it or go over it.
May end up being loose like the seasaw at Newport, but I'm sure someone could rig up something that worked.

Yeah or you could just leave it as is and stack stuff up from time to time
