Stage 1 of the Paddington Skatepark Upgrade is set to commence at the end of July / Start of August however Convic may be on site from Tuesday 27th July, 2015, (next week). As you can see from the plans, it is an updated version of what is already there keeping a lot of the same obstacles and adding a few new obstacles.
In other Skatepark news, the upgrade for Insla Skatepark will commence on 9th September, 2015, (Convic will also be doing construction for this upgrade). Both Paddington & Inala upgrades are to be completed at the same time which is at the end of 2015.

We have posted about this modern 75,000 sq ft Skatepark on a number of occasions, the first time being back in 2012, it's Spring Park, (Houston, Texas). Here are some overviews of the completed park, Brisbane City Council note how the Skatepark has lights, caters for all types of skaters and how there is no use of a B-Track System, (which is a cement based coating system similar to what is used on bus lanes & what was used at Kuraby Skatepark recently) for surfacing. @brisbanecitycouncil #brisbaneskateboarding
The maintenance work out at Jindalee Skatepark, which mainly consists of removing the bitumen and resurfacing the park is about to begin with fences being put up.
The mini ramp and bottom end of the park is still accessible, we will have more information available soon. @brisbanecitycouncil #brisbaneskateboarding
Bracken Ridge Skatepark is planned to be designed this year with construction to commence approx. April 2016 after the aquatic centre is built.
We initially started talking to Council about a Skatepark at Bracken Ridge roughly 2 years ago and from all the talks we've had with them, the design will be something similar to Stoner Plaza.
We will be meeting with Council in the near future to continue talks with them regarding Bracken Ridge as well as other parks. @brisbanecitycouncil #brisbaneskateboarding
If you've been out to Shand St, (Enoggera) lately you may have noticed the works near the mini ramp.
So that you aren't misinformed, we've spoken to the local ward office and those works aren't for a new Skatepark as some people were informed of.
The work being carried out there is for a new footpath and bikeway to join the existing ones. @brisbanecitycouncil #brisbaneskateboarding

As we mentioned last week in a post, fencing has been put up out at Jindalee Skatepark for the planned maintenance to begin.
We have been informed by Council that the works are expected to take approx. 3 weeks, (weather permitting). The surface will also be brushed concrete, similar to what is currently in place. The finish of the surface was agreed upon by the users of the park during the public consultation Cr Matthew Bourke conducted at the park earlier this year. @brisbanecitycouncil #brisbaneskateboarding
Jindalee Skate Park.
We have been in touch with Cr Bourke regarding the resurfacing of Jindalee Skate Park, (see above) and are awaiting a response from him directly.
In the meantime, we have posted our response on the @brisbanecitycouncil Facebook page, leave your feedback as well if you are concerned about this issue. #brisbaneskateboarding
The Brisbane Skateboarding Association met with Member for Bracken Ridge Ward, Councillor Amanda Cooper on behalf of the Skateboarding Community on Wednesday 5th August, 2015 to discuss the proposed development of the Bracken Ridge Skate Facility.
Overall, the meeting was productive and positive and the Brisbane Skateboarding Association looks forward to working with Councillor Cooper in the future on the Bracken Ridge Skate Facility, as well as other events and strategies that were discussed throughout the meeting.

Jindalee Skatepark.
Cr Matthew Bourke, the Skateboarding Community does not support resurfacing skate parks with brushed concrete as this conflicts with good practice skate park development. So we can only assume that local bmxers who have limited knowledge of skate parks have requested the park be resurfaced with brushed concrete.
When engaging with community, it is a good idea to have done some background research so you can present options and ideas based on good practice by experts in the field. Simply asking 'what do you want' is too open-ended. If all the local users know is Jindalee Skate Park then all they'll want is Jindalee Skatepark.

Not one has brushed concrete, lightly or otherwise.
We would like to find a solution to problems like this so that when maintenance/resurfacing is done, the surface benefits all types of users. @convicskateparks @brisbanecitycouncil #brisbaneskateboarding
