Brisbane City Council is constructing a competition-standard, plaza-style skate facility at 523 Telegraph Road in Fitzgibbon. The park will feature a range of unique features and transitions to promote creativity and usability for skaters of all abilities. The final design of Bracken Ridge Skate Plaza is the product of significant community input. Council held two informal consultation events with roller sport participants at nearby Deagon Skate Park on 5 August 2015 and Zillmere Skate Park on 6 August 2015. Approximately 30 park users attended the Deagon event and 14 attended at Zillmere to share their opinions on features they would like to see at the Bracken Ridge facility. A formal consultation event was held at the Sandgate Town Hall on Wednesday 26 August 2015. The event was led by Council and a representative from specialist skate designer Convic and stakeholders included representatives from the Brisbane Skateboarding Association and other passionate members of the local skateboarding community. The outcome of the consultation led to the adoption of the current design, which will be the first true plaza-style facility in Brisbane. It is the aim of Council that the skate plaza will enhance Brisbanes ability to attract professional-level skateboarding demonstrations and provide an ideal location to host local competitions. Construction will start in early November 2015 and is expected to be completed in early 2016, weather permitting. Construction will generally take place between 7am-5pm, Monday to Saturday. No changed traffic conditions on Telegraph Road are expected as a result of this project. However, traffic controllers will be on-site when required during construction to ensure a safe road environment for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. Head along to Jugglers Art Space at 103 Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley from 8:00pm to celebrate the brands 10 year milestone. The night is dedicated to showing the brands journey from inception whilst celebrating the people within the Australian skateboarding community who helped shape the brand. In conjunction with the show, 4128 Distribution will screen the Australian premiere of the 5Boro video in the back courtyard. Admission is free with doors opening at 8:00pm. 18+ only with I.D required for entry, as this is a licensed venue. The 5Boro video is set to premiere at approx 9:15pm.
