Once the Paddington Skatepark Upgrade has finished, there are plans to install plaques for the skaters that have passed away, this area is still to be decided upon. Come and 'Thank Albert It's Friday' on Friday 14th August, 2015. For this Brisbane City Council event, the road space on Albert St (between Charlotte & Mary streets) will be reclaimed for pedestrians. Brisbane's newest CBD event space will be transformed with live music, giant games and a relaxed street picnic atmosphere. The Brisbane Skateboarding Association will be holding an open skate session as part of the 'Thank Albert It's Friday' event. While our allocated space is limited, we will still have obstacles available to skate on the day. This provides a rare opportunity for Zbrisbane skaters to legitimately skateboard in Brisbane City. When: Friday 14th August, 2015. Where: Albert St, Brisbane City. Paddington Skatepark Upgrade - Shane Cross Mural. The wall that has the iconic mural of Shane Cross at Paddington Skatepark is in the process of being removed, the Brisbane Skateboarding Association spoke to Shane Cross's Mum & Dad this morning regarding the upgrade to Paddington Skatepark and the removal of the wall, we have also been in touch with Gimiks Born who did the murals of Shane to inform him of the upgrade. Brisbane City Council had spoken to Shane's Dad prior to us speaking to both his Mum & Dad and we can report that they were happy to receive the call from both Council and the Brisbane Skateboarding Association and understood the progress and changes Council is making to the Skatepark. Plaques for skaters that have passed away will be installed in an area of the upgraded park, this area is yet to be decided upon by Council. Sport and Racing Minister Bill Byrne said the Queensland Government had committed $1.5 million in funding to Brisbane City Council, subject to approvals, for new and upgraded skating facilities. This is an exciting project for Brisbane skateboarders and BMX enthusiasts, which will enhance or deliver five skating facilities across the region, Minister Byrne said. Fitzgibbon District Park at Bracken Ridge, Dorrington Park at Ashgrove and Fihelly Street Park at Grovely will all receive brand new skateboarding and BMX facilities. Existing skate parks at Neal Macrossan Park in Paddington and DJ Sherrington Park in Inala will receive upgrades to improve the overall flow and functionality of the facilities, while addressing drainage and safety issues. Were looking forward to working with the Brisbane City Council to make this project a reality and deliver greater participation in sport and recreation at the grassroots level, Minister Byrne said. The skate park projects are a part of the Queensland GovernmentsGet Playing Plus, a component of Get in the Game, that provides funding contributions for new or existing infrastructure development projects from $300,000 to a maximum of $1.5 million. Our goal is to ensure more Queenslanders are getting outdoors, staying active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, he said. Brisbane City Council is pleased to announce works to upgrade Inala Skate Park will start in early September 2015. The Inala Skate Park upgrade will amend the sites drainage issues and significantly expand the facility with a variety of new features, including social spaces. These will benefit both skaters and the broader community. Work will be undertaken from 7am to 5pm Monday to Saturday. Residents will be notified if any out of hours works are required. No changed traffic conditions are expected as a result of this project. However, traffic controllers will be on-site when required during construction to ensure a safe road environment for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. Inala Skate Park will be closed for the duration of construction. Users seeking alternative facilities should use nearby Acacia Ridge Skate Park (James Freney Park, Acacia Ridge) or Carole Park Skate Park (Boundary Road and Waterford Road, Carole Park) until construction is completed. Construction is expected to be completed by late 2015, weather permitting. We thank residents ahead of time for their patience.
