I don't much go for that gay keyboard-y metal.
Also on the Slayer vid where the guy goes "oh you should ask slayer what it's like sharing the stage with US."

Ah must be one of the other bands on the vid that has that gay chimey keyboard and simulated guitar solo's. But yeah I dunno LoG doesn't really do it for me. That comment about sharing the stage with slayer was definitely them though. The singing is a bit monotonous too.
DDeathMoth10 Sept 2008
you're right about the singin. never been too much of a fan of his vocals but they have the riffs from hell and the drummer is the deadset shiznit. sickest grooves. some pretty original ways to play thrash metal
Sskelator.10 Sept 2008
yeah LoG aren't really my thing either, they do have some narce riffage however.
DDeathMoth10 Sept 2008
the riffs maketh the metal bitches
Sskelator.10 Sept 2008
fuck finger picking.

I fucking LOVE LAMB OF GOD

I bought Killadelphia the other day. They are so good live.

I too dislike keyboardy metal.
DDonut10 Sept 2008
lamb are fucking sweet, the drummer actully tried out for bass for the band but didnt make it so he stuck to drums, i guess thats why his drums go along with the guitar so well because he play them very melodically

the keyboard metal you are talking about Mr. Fox is children of bodem and they are fucking gay, serious one of the guitarists is full on gay with another band member.

deathy i need some new pick ups for my rig its an ibanez with a very nice neck ultra thin, no lock trem or anything, but i mostly play metal as in death metal and thrash metal and i notice that my distortion is heavy and the way i like it but i want more power like the sound of a high gain pick up but i dont want an active pick up because i dont wanna have to cut the body of the guitar or anything so i was wondering if you had any suggestions as to what i can get
MMr Fox11 Sept 2008
More power? You mean like a more punchy kind of sound? Try pulling back a bit on the distortion. Sure you'll have to work a bit harder to get your palm mutes to sound the same, and legato might not come as easy, but...and those skinny ass necks don't exactly help you get a fatter tone either.
That's what I reckon.
MMr Fox11 Sept 2008
Oh and if you'v ebeen suckered into the full V eq (if you know what I mean), try getting some high to middle mids back in there.
DDeathMoth11 Sept 2008
well the invader is a passive pick up and from what i've heard, and from what i'm sure i'm about to hear it would be a good option. you don't need to cut the body of your guitar to have an active pickup. i have an EMG 81 in my RG750 and its all good, though you might need to get different volume/tone pots.

that being said if you want more punch the 81 probably isn't the go and the Invader might suit you more. there are some other seymours on the market that could also do you well if you want to maintain a versitile sound

do u have a good amp?
Sskelator.11 Sept 2008
i don't mind the ol' keyboards in metal, only if it suits.

bodom were good when noone knew about them, they weren't as commercial and alexi shreds. Then everyone got into them from baker 3 because dollen is just the coolest cat in town.

get some dimebuckers johno mate.
FFetus11 Sept 2008
Johno the best way to feel the power is to play LOUD. This is providing you have a decent amp. You need to get those speakers physically pushing some air! Yes the right pickups also help too.

I have an invader and can tell you this pickup will sound powerful in almost ANY guitar. I say this because I have it loaded into a Samick that I got for $70 and is probably made of plywood. Having said this... power yes, versatility no. Sounds awful clean and leaves a lot to be desired for lead tone.

Hey Engineer type people. Can someone give me a little explanation on the ratio on a compressor please. Basically, I've tried to run the kick drum through the thing 'cause I'm still building up my double kick chops and consostency of attack is my main problem. So anyway, I run it through the compressor, which also has a noise gate, and if one's turned on they're both turned on.
Now what happens is it goes all choppy, like the gate is shutting it out, even if I put the thresh-hold on the gate real low, and boost the output from the compressor right up.
Any tips?
(for reference it's an inbuilt compressor/gate that runs through an onboard effects loop on the Akai DPS12)
MMr Fox15 Sept 2008
Ok I've had a little read around, and the ratio works the way I thought it did (except I was thinking back to front when I tried it yesterday). Gonna have to play around with the gate I think...
DDeathMoth15 Sept 2008
compression on kick.
many different applications. can of worms.

to level out your kicks you want a fast attack, probably less than 20ms. this will ensure the comp fires as soon as it gets a signal.

your threshold will need to be set according to how inconsistent your kicks are. say some hits are 4db more than others you'd be right to set your ratio at the level of your quieter hits with a ratio of around 4:1 therefore when ya hit is 4db louder than the threshold it will compressed 4db. (just a guide, always check with your ears)

release you want to be set fairly quick...quick enough so that the comp is never still compressing when your next hit occurs
MMr Fox15 Sept 2008
Hey Deathy, what albums are you maybe gonna send us? I wanna get some on cd, but not much point buying the same ones you're sending (maybe). May as well fill out the set properly. I can't live off 3 songs forever haha
MMr Fox15 Sept 2008
Oh and in other guitar related news - used the Dimebag wah to record a solo on the weekend. Fuck I reckon it sounds good. Flatmate reckoned when the second half of the solo kicked in (it has two parts - first half without the wah, second half with, each over two different riffs) it sounded like something was about to explode in his brain hahaha
DDeathMoth15 Sept 2008
blood mountain, call of the mastodon, leviathon, remission
MMr Fox15 Sept 2008
That just leaves ep's eh? Wiki says they only have three full-length albums out. Is that correct?
DDeathMoth15 Sept 2008
all those i mentioned are full length beyatch!
MMr Fox15 Sept 2008
Yeah but what I meant was is there any other full length ones other than those?
