oh my bad there on the delay... i'm used to running delay though the loop so my gate is always at the end.. you're correct 100%
wah's yeh you're probably right man its been a while since i got my Hammet on haha.
whats the general order
Filter effects
Compressors
Overdrive/Dist
Pitch modifyers like harmonizers, vibrato etc
Modulation like chorus and flange
Gate/ noise suppressor
Echo effects
agree?
M
Mr Fox21 Oct 2008Filter effects and compressors may go either way depending on taste and what exactly you're using.
Example - a dynamic filter (like an envelope wah) may be better placed after the compressor to allow more consistency in the sound of the wah effect. Although I guess you could say that's cheating and it'd be better to work on picking technique haha although it's much of a muchness really...

Mr Fox21 Oct 2008Oh yeah I got the PSA 240 also and I run the Boss OD-2, and a Wah, and have at times run this other Zoom multi box all off the one daisy chain and it's no drama's. Although I previously had a zoom power adaptor and it did die while doing the same thing, but I'm pretty sure it had a lower milliamp (sp?) rating as it was made to run solely the zoom multi box.
yeh the same dude who advised me not to use a daisy chain into a digital delay also told me that his mate does it and it works for him though at risk or something, however i think you may find that some of those digital pedals are 12v

The Stuckey21 Oct 2008alright, x mas and my b day is coming up, and im hoping it wont be another seaon of stingyness. right now i have a gay monterey strat copy, and im not liking it at all. I tried a white Epi SG, and loved the necks, but i know deathy and fox HATE epi's, so do you guys have any suggestions for a good guitar, prefs humbuckers?
I'd probably research into possibly an older charvel , most of them have got floyd rose bridges which never go outta tune and have standard jackson/charvel active pick ups. My mates owns a couple for which he generally plays a lot of metal, hard rock and shred guitar on. The older the better, try to find one around the late 80's.
look i've had this old ibanez rg750 since i was 13. it was produced back in the glam metal hay-day, obviously designed for mad cunts. it was pretty much the equivilant of the Jem models except without the hand grip thing in the body, or more so it was the Prestige range guitar of the day.
i know some people find the ibanez necks too thin but this old beast has a slightly bigger neck, still thin, not too thin though and little wider than some of the more recent wizard necks.
its got the original Edge trem which in my opinion is second only to the Edge II and whips a standard Floyd Rose in terms of tuning stability and reliability.
if you're after that kind of metal guitar then try to find an old ibanez... no you can't have mine
hey fox do you play much jazz and/or are you interested in the concepts/ideas that might influence your ability to rock in a different way
if you are... i can for a short time still access my old guitar jazz text book in pdf format from my uni website. if you're interested i can download them for ya and email them

Al the Spazz22 Oct 2008hey foxa, i know you look at this thread. i just want to say thanks for putting me on to reverend gary davis four years ago, right here in this very forum. you pointed out that he could play guitar fairly well and posted a relevant link or two, and since then i've been listening to a couple of albums of his quite regularly - in between listening to a lot of other stuff with less dazzling guitar playing of course, for example hound dog taylor who played pretty ordinarily but always sounds special to me. to tell the truth though sometimes i hate to hear guitars. all that jingling and jangling, twinging and twanging, strumming and riffing or whatever it's called. i almost didn't want to look at this thread because i knew at some point i'd start to feel sick reading it. tubas and double basses, on the other hand - there's a couple instruments i'll never get tired of hearing. is there a double bass or tuba thread on here somewhere?

Al the Spazz22 Oct 2008well i jumped in and posted anyway, might as well make the most of it now. allow me to quote from an email a bass-playing mate sent me this morning. i'll use italics so stupid short-sighted people can't work it out - don't want to let everyone on this shit. hope i don't mess it up. actually the category 'stupid short-sighted people' includes me, but hey i already know what it says so anyway here we go, a good story about something that happened to a band (with a guitar player in it)...
recently we did 4 gigs in and around adelaide with pete cornelius and the devilles. one night we played an empty little joint run by an elvis impersonator with a dyed quiff. at the end of the night he refused to pay us as it had been 'a bit of a disaster'. the following night we played at the semaphore workers' club, an old havana-esque place overlooking the sea. high ceilings, walls decorated with pics of lenin, marx, ho chi minh, che... after 2 sets followed by the playing of the 'internationale' at full blast, we sat down for a couple of cold beers and a chat with the comrade in charge. at one point we told him the story of the unpaid gig and he went to the till and got the $800 for us to cover that gig (the two places are completely unrelated) + another $800 for the semaphore gig. he told us it was their way, that we didn't deserve to be ripped off as we'd come a long way and played - and that he was 85% sure he would get the money off elvis (the club is full of bikers and members of rose tattoo - so they also have a lot of muscle, although i asked them not to beat elvis up). anyway - just wanted to let you know that this gesture was made by the adelaide comrades, and that for all of us it was unprecedented in our gigging experience. not sure if they have the money yet, but the gesture was memorable.

M
Mr Fox23 Oct 2008Yeah Al the Rev goes alright eh. Haven't actually listened to him for a little while myself - lent out my vid and albums, and no wi Dunno where they are...oh well.
HAHAHAhA that vid up the top was awesome Deathy! Sounds like what I do when someone tells me to play something and I don't wanna hahaha "hey I think your guitar's broken" LOL
how much do pay bands when they play a gig? because my bands hosting a gig with a few good bands from around the area and yeah i was just wandering how it works.
what sort of gig? how many people u expect to turn up? how much are they paying, if any to get in?
theres usually 2 ways.
1) pay the bands a door deal ie a certain $$ per paying person at the show. you can stagger it so your headliners get more than your supports. in this deal you need to factor in how much you need to pay for venue hire and PA etc before you tell the bands how much you're paying them. too many times cunts have said "yous are getting $1 a head" then like 100 people turn up but we only get $30 because the sound guy had to be paid before us etc.
2) offer the bands a single payment of whatever you think they're worth. if its just a local punk or metal show or whatever give em $50 each if you can afford it after paying all other costs
what sort of gig, how well known are the bands etc.. i'll give ya some figures
M
Mr Fox29 Oct 2008So you rented a joint, and are charging at the door?
First, you gotta pay for the room/PA/whatever else you've had to fork out for ahead of time. Maybe if you've made fliers/posters whatever they'll cost you a fe bucks too.
You can do straight split between the bands with what's left. Or portion it out, say $3 for headliner, $2 for supports, or something like. (Obviously if it's $15 to get in or something it will be more like say $5 and $3 or something.)
Or you can get the door bitch to ask each punter who they came to see, and keep a count for each band, and use that to split the dough - that usually works good for getting the bands to bring people, meaning all up there's gonna be more people = better night = better word on the street for next time. Plus the more people that see your band the better.
The other option is to agree to pay each band a certain amount. Then once you've paid the bands and the venue and whatever else, you take the gamble of making yourself some cash, or losing some.
beat your ass to it old man!
