Guitar Thread

Does anyone know much about reverb tanks ? I've got a classic 50 4x10 and I pulled apart the reverb tank as it was not even working. One of the springs isn't connected and is missing a few bits which I highly doubt I could find and fix. Are all reverb tanks the same ? Can I just get something around the same size or are they not universal ?

It's not called Piglatron because of the pig. It's called Piglatron after the dog. The dog's name is Claude, but his nickname is Piglatron. One time he ate all the icecream and spewed up under the lounge.


Yeah Al I'd say that bass player is probably rather stoned haha probably a few scotches under me belt too haha and yeah I managed to come up with some kind of awkard/busy basslines for some of the songs haha

do you still play bass, mr fox? i played throughout my teenage years and was really quite obsessive about it - taking classes, looking at books, playing with various bands and practising four hours a day and all that. however at the age of 19 (1992) for some reason suddenly feeling terribly embarrassed about the whole thing i chucked it in and gave my beloved jb-4 to a mate who is still gigging with it today. recently i've starting missing it.

ahem, back to the guitar - let's share clips. here's someone my old man took me and my brother dug to see at enmore in the mid-1980s: rory gallagher. i don't remember too clearly, but dad tells us i was really into it and dug fell asleep, even though rory had the volume up to 11, and because we were close to the front rory could see dug and found it quite amusing that this 12-year-old boy would be sleeping through his concert and at one point even asked for a spotlight to be shone on him. i still can't decide whether dad made that up or it really it happened.

Well I'm not playing in a band at the moment. But yeah been recording some shit on my own so yeah playing some bass (and drums/guitar/vocals - might be this weekend my mate will bring his laptop around and I'll chuck a couple on pootube so you's can hear some).
But yeah just picking on the bass lately - hard rock/metal styles I guess you'd call it?
Never took lessons though - just when I first started learning guitar (15yo in '89) I got a little four track and drum machine and bass and just started doing stuff. Never really done "practice sessions", even on guitar I had maybe a dozen lessons spread over maybe 3-4 years. Other than that just jammed heaps.

I played in a jazz quartet for little while there too, on the fretless bass, with a drummer, guitar and sax, playing a few George Benson tunes and stuff.
But yeah my only real practise is just noodling around n front of the tv pretty much.

What'd you get embarrassed for?

i think i got embarrassed about having cloth-ears. i could read well and practised a lot so i knew a lot of stuff and was always being asked to play with people, but my listening and improvising were shithouse - and those were the things i really wanted to be good in. now i think i'd be happy just to be playing whatever, something simple and swinging together with friends.

What kind of music do I play? Umm...guitar music? I dunno. Been writing a coupla heavy-ish I guess kinda tunes lately, just an excuse to play some guitar really. Played bass in the last couple of bands and just got sick of having to work hard to make a band with a shithouse guitarist sound decent, so fuck it I'm not playing bass in bands anymore - just wanna get my guitar on. But yeah played lots of different stuff over the years.

Piglatron - the singer actually just came and knocked on the door saying he'd heard a band rehearsing (an old cover band err) and was lokoing for a bass player and thought we might know. He said it was funk rock so I just joined as an excuse to practise slapping the bass hahaha

piglatron is a golden band. we often bring home the bacon during late night xbox booze ups

thinking about learning the guitar. will probually just get a nice acoustic to learn the basics n shit first once exams are over.

would poeple recommend getting lessons or is it easy enough learning yourself?

na man get lessons and then wen u get the hang of readin the music and that u can just learn ur self but if some1 teaches u u will improve way faster

yeh i recommend getting lessons. if you can get your teacher to teach you the things that will help you to learn the shit you want to learn first up, then you can kind of use the teacher to teach you essential techniques etc while in your spare time you've got the know-how to learn songs etc for yourself.

never been a fan of teachers that just teach students songs

i'm self taught, i wish i took lessons back when i started, took me ages to figure out very basic shit

i chucked a sicky today but now i remember i cut my finger open at work and won't be able to play axe. gay!

fucking night work, i haven't slept since Tuesday night.
