Just got recently back into playing again.
Got a Gibson les paul custom ebony and a Jackson RR24 white randy rhoads.
Getting my amp in a week or so, tossing up between either a dual rectifier, a stiletto or an engl blackmore. Wanted to try out a Diezel VH4 amp, but can't find any stockists in aus. Anyone seen them around?
DDeathMoth5 Nov 2008
nope but if anyone has or knows of somewhere selling either a cheap Fender HotRod Deville 40w, Fender Blues 40w or Peavey Classic 30w ... i'm lookin for a good small valve blues amp for my lounge room
SS L E E P5 Nov 2008
Hotrod Devilles are dope little amps. They actually had 2 of them on sale up at Billy Hydes in Southport on the goldy last weekend.
DDeathMoth5 Nov 2008
yeh they have a good blues sound, pretty fucked for anything else but thats all i'm after really. a blues sounding amp so i can sound good while i'm jamming while watching home and away
DDRIFTz0R6 Nov 2008
deathmoth there's a 2x12 hotrod on ausband for 1k, which is decent. I'd usually buy my shit from ebay though.
AAl the Spazz6 Nov 2008
what do you play when you're watching home and away, deathmoth!
DDeathMoth6 Nov 2008
well usually i improvise a solo over the intro music then just jam blues licks the rest of the time to numb my mind of the mind numbing shit on tele

nah thanks dritzor i'm after a bargain...$1000 is a standard 2nd hand price. i'm looking for a beat up heap of shit with a good sound
AAl the Spazz6 Nov 2008
i can't look at your drink more vid yet foxa, my internet connection is shithouse and i often go for days without being able to watch vids. i'll keep trying.

recently acquired every Stevie Ray album. so pumped to finally be mature enough to get into this shit. he's a beast
MMr Fox7 Nov 2008
Have you seen Live at the El Mocambo? It's pretty fucken good!
DDeathMoth7 Nov 2008
nah mate wouldn't mind getting my mits on some footage of the man in action
MMr Fox7 Nov 2008
If my mate brings the lappy over tomorrow and we do some burning I'll get that and the Mastodon one copied. Got another live one of SRV but it's after he sobered up.
DDeathMoth7 Nov 2008
is it any good?
MMr Fox7 Nov 2008
The one when he's sobered up is pretty sterile performance by comparison. You can see that he's kinda uncomfortable (I reckon) being on stage.
Did you get the album with his brother? Family style or something it's called. It's kinda like that kind of sterile.
It's probably not too bad, but the El Mocambo is like his first gig back in Texas after the first world tour or something, and I watched that sooooooo many times over the years until I got the other one, so it had alot to live up to I guess.
DDeathMoth7 Nov 2008
yes i did dude. i haven't had time to listen to listen through everything yet but yeh i just flicked it on then since you mentioned it

That guy that asked about lessons - yeah get them. But go in with something to learn. Take in a copy of the song that made you wanna learn or something. It really sucks to go to lessons and the guy's teaching you some junk that you're not interested in, so you don't practice, and have to waste the next lesson going over it again...you wanna learn shit that you're gonna practice, so tell them what you want to learn.
Also don't feel like you have to go every week - some stuff takes a while to seep in or figure out properly. Plus it gives you a chance to experiment a bit, then when you take things back to your lesson, the teacher will be able to sus the direction you're trying to take things, and hopefully teach you the stuff you want to learn.
Oh and don't bother trying to fool the teacher about whether or not you're practising - if you don't practice and lie about it he'll think you're a slow learner, or a lazy lyar - either way he won't be pushing you so much in the lessons and you're wasting your (or your parents) time and money. The guys getting paid anyway, so it's kind of up to you to inspire him to teach you well by being a good student.
Then again you can get shit teachers as well so don't be afraid to leave and go to another teacher. Better then just quitting because one guy is a jerk.

That sounds pretty gay hahaha but it's true.

after i'd been playing guitar for about 6 years my teacher that i'd started with told me to piss off cos he couldn't teach me anything else... which was crap really cos he was a bit of jazz beast. ended up going to this new dude who insisted that before we got down to the business of sorting out my shit for this exam that i had to go through that entire Rhythm Guitar method book... the one with the blue strat on the front. i'm like "fuck dude, i only learn the C chord about 6 years ago and these pissy assed rhythms aren't fooling anyone" but still he insisted i had to finish the whole book by playing along to the accompaning cd. man i was vile with him after that

please

(:
Tthe colonel7 Nov 2008
here's my 3 seconds of brag: i went to G3 and it was amazing, steve vai was incredible live, john petrucci and portnoy were crazy and satch, well..what can even be said about the man other than he is bald and likes silver surfer.
Llizard kinggg7 Nov 2008
hollow body electric *
DDRIFTz0R7 Nov 2008
I'd probably recomend the Gretsch electromatic range or the epiphone dot, which is a budget version of a Gibson 355? anyway similar but never the less it's just a budget version, you could probably slap some decent hum buckers in there and get a decent sound. I'm looking to get a decent hollowbody in the future and I'm personally thinking about just going all out and buying some sort of Vox.
DDeathMoth7 Nov 2008
i couldn't recommend any budget range guitars haha. go for the good shit. rickenbacker do a decent 12 string hollow electric
SS L E E P8 Nov 2008
Hey DeathMoth, just wondering do you still have that satriani amp on the front page? How are they in comparison to the 6505's and Triple XXX heads? I was considering maybe getting a 6505 or older 5150, but I've heard good things about the satrianis, just I haven't actually heard them in action.
