well the first thing you'll notice is that a 5150 and a JSX have a different sound. i've A/Bed mine with a mates 6505 with several guitars all with different pickups.

comparitively i wouldn't say that one is better as such though if you want an amp thats pretty much got a good metal sound only the 6505/5150 is your pick. theres something about its low mids that are super tight and just sound wicked.

that said, i love the sound of my jsx. the lead channel has a lot of balls and doesn't sound any less metal than the 5150, it just has a different tone. i get my metal tone by using a Maxon OD808 pedal to tighten up the low mids and provide a bit of pre-gain distortion.

what wins it for me with the jsx is the versatility. it can do a british rock sound like a marshall, good low gain blues sounds and the clean channel is super super clean. it doesn't overdrive like a marshall clean channel, and if i want it to, i can click on the Maxon OD for minor boost.

it has an in built adjustable noise gate over the lead channels which is pretty important once you turn it up, i still use another gate before it tho to tighten up those quick rests.

i wasn't too keen on the clean sound of the 5150, wasn't clean at all but did have its worth as a mild rock tone.

so depending on what you're after, either one of those amps will be super sick. just go have a go of each of them, with the same guitar and cab and sus what is best for you

right now i'm really into pantera (always have been), dio, iron maiden, chimaira, killswitch engage, dream theater, down, superjoint ritual (so pretty much everything with phil anselmo), black sabbath (dio era and ozzy era but preferably dio), lamb of god, devildriver and machine head. they're not the only ones i like, btu atm they're my favourites

i also play guitar and i like playing metal but i fuckin hate tuning down lower than drop d. my favourite shit to play tho is like ballads eg. cemetery gates or any appregio based songs with a solo. m/

Yeah i saw them gay cunts yesterday arvo sitting out the front of the southport store with theyre little chairs n shit, fucking nineballs. Saw some nu-metal looking dude camping over night probably to cop a line 6 amp for a few hundred dollars off or some shit, fuck that.

I went in there yesterday and checked out engl shit, they're pretty fucking dust considering the ridiculous amounts of hype I've heard. The blackmore one was alright cause it was kinda simple. But the other ones are way too fucking fidgety and have too many features.

Also peeped out them Peavey ones the other day, the triple xxx is a fucking piece of shit. But yeah that jsx one you got is nice, and same with the 6505+

I'm leaning more towards mesa tho, I'm still tossin up on either the stiletto or dual rec.

Can anyone reccomend a decent sound compressor ? Thought I wouldn't really need one as I don't run huge amounts of distortion that often, but the feedback I get from my pedal board and mostly the big muff is unbearable..I've looked into the boss range but I'd like to get something a bit smaller if it all possible, my board is cramped as.

If it's a case of you play a chord/note and then you get uncontrollable feedback when you try to mute the strings, your pickups have probably gone microphonic (meaning the coils have come loose - if you sing into the pickup and it comes through the amp that's a sure sign). In that case a noise gate won't do shit. Time for new pickups.

no shit? I got an invader in my les paul and I pretty much hate it.. The guy who I bought it off put it in and I always planned on ripping it out and putting something less gainy in later.. maybe an antiquity or something... never did.

i find the extra gain ruines just about every direct / modelling signal not to mention sucks the tone of the les and shits it out its arse..

does any of you know where i can get a cheap line 6 40watt amp for cheap. cause my mates bro got 2 for like $150 each.

you mean the spider 3? billy hydes have em. Got mine at the camperdown store. They go alright for a cheapo practice amp. Pretty sure I paid around 150 for it.
