yer thanks man i know what ya mean now
i gotta set the action for drop c tuning because that is what i will be writing most of my songs in and using my other guitar for standard
fuck yeah drop c!! thanks for letting us know, we all now think you are a much better guitarist
TTrogdor the Burninat30 Apr 2009have you tried turning it off, then on again?
KILL YOUR SELF KILL YOUR SELF KILL YOUR SELF.
FUCKKKK
KILL YOUR SELF!
i was letting you know the tunning i was going to be using so i can find out how i need to set the action because i have no idea
also if anyone could help me with re soldering my volume knob back on correctly that would be good.
there are 4 wires that need to go on there. 1 green, 1 red, 1 grey and 1 black i just have no idea where to put them
any help would be greatly appreciated
TTrogdor the Burninat30 Apr 2009Really should be careful soldering things to your knob, one slip with the iron and you could seal yourself up for good!

crashbandicoot30 Apr 2009yeh gota get me hands on a fresh acoustic
are you after recommendations? or just letting us know?
johno you should try to find a wiring diagram on the net for your pickups.
as for tuning to C i recommend you get some sick ass strings. i used to use ernie ball yellows when i tuned down that far. they were massive but held a good tension in low tunings not to mention a really thick tone
yer i was googling for ages late night trying to find wiring diagrams but there all in ching chong on the esp site which sucks. As for the picture side of things there was none that matched what i have which is 2 humbuckers with 1 tone and 1 volume knob
i know that the grey and black ones go on top of the pot of the volume knob but ill get my mates dad to look at it and hopefully he knows what to do
the strings i have on my guitar atm is dunlop 10 - 52s which are a bit thin i suppose
i was thinking of just playin in C tuning but yer thats not really a fuss for me atm. I would just like to sort out this volume knob stuff so i can hear my guitar haha
have you tried shorting the spare wires together
when i replaced my pickup at first i had no sound then i shorted the two remaining wires together and bingo bongo!
M
Mr Fox1 May 2009Yeah if it's a humbucker without a splitting switch then you need to patch the two coils together. You can either patch the two coils in sequence, or in parallel.
The black and grey are probably one coil, and the red and green the other. You'll just have to sus out which is positive and which is negative.
But yeah you should be able to tell from the schematics which of the wires are positive and which are negative.
Hit up a guitar forum. Someone'll sort you out pretty easy. I'm starting to get into a bit of guessing territory now and don't wanna be to blame for you fucking up your guitar.
M
Mr Fox1 May 2009What Deathy done was link the two coils. Like one coil would have been connected to the knob by the positive, and the other by the negative. Then the other two need to be attached to link each other together. That's how it works in sequence.
If all four of yours came off from the pot, then yours must have been set up in parallel. So you'd need to pair up, I think, the red and black together, and the green and grey together, then attach to the pot as if it's just two wires.
But yeah you can run them in reverse parallel as well and it does make a subtle difference to the sound, so yeah hit a guitar forum.
guitar wiz fox!
yer i think they all snapped from the pot because i can see solder the solder on the 3 parts
the grey lead is the one coming from the input where ya plug in which spilts into 2 wires. the green one is coming from the tone knob nd spilts into 2 wires and the red one is coming from the switch which also spilts into 2 wires and the black wires is a single one that comes from a small hole.
when the wires spilt from the one cable. one is covered with white and the other has nothing around it so does that mean one is positive and negative. which is which??
M
Mr Fox1 May 2009It sounds like everything's disconnected, not just the pickup. Pretty hard to picture from your description.
Grab the serial number (or model number or something) of both the guitar and the pickup, and hit a guitar forum.
I'm not gonna offer more help on it because I'm starting to guess more and more, and considering I can't see the thing there's good chance I'll lead you down the wrong track.
GUITAR FORUM.
yer true i dont care if your guessing at least your giving me some information
id have to become a member nd all that bullshit to go on a guitar forum though
yer everything is disconnected from the volume knob
fuck that sucks
haha yerp fixing it today so hopefully all is good ill let ya's know how it goes
Take your guitar to a music store, get them to fix it.

Deathmoth, I've been using the Heavy Bottom Skinny Top Slinkys for drop tuned guitars. (10's to 52's)
I've found the extra tension from the heavier guage strings really stopped the fret buzz, even with the action low on the les paul. Sound freaking chunky too.
I have also however loaded the HBTP's into my archtop.
The bridge is floating and simply sits on the sound board and really resonates the sound heavily. I got told to steer away from the heavier strings for that however I'm absolutely loving how rich the tone is from the heavier strings. Its a mahogany neck and a quilt maple hollow body so its already got a sweet tone, but the thicker strings have brought it to life!
well finally took my guitar around to my mates house who then got a dude named bob to fix it for free so everything worked out all good haha
M
megamanX5 May 2009good to hear dude, i was starting to get worried
always bigger tone from heavy strings
