Fetus4 Feb 2010hey shutdown both guitar styles definitely have their purpose
as far as most metal goes, when you're playing live, flat out at excessive volumes I can guarantee no-one in the crowd is going to care if you are playing a hardtail or not. In this situation the pickups and amp have way more to do with it than the bridge type. You might as well throw your monster tone out the window when you realise your competing for sonic space in a noisy environment. What tone works on stage sounds absolutely shit on it's own and vice versa.
I personally don't see the reason to put all the extra effort in swinging a massive chunk of mahogany around on stage, when I have way more fun with a light and easy to play guitar.
Having said all this I would love to record any parts possible in the studio with aforementioned heavy lump of guitar... or if I played in an ac/dc tribute band

shutdown9 Feb 2010So i was just sussing out Dino Cazares's 8 string Ibanez setup after noticing he had a floyd in a picture I just saw.. My instant thought was 'NO FUCKING WAY!'
Then I found this text - LOL Block of wood up in the house...
"Ibanez 8 string with trem and 'Prestige' neck stamp. Dino uses mahogany body and neck with purpleheart also in the neck and of course the 707 pickup. He likes having the trem only so he has the mini tuners, he has a small block of wood in the back of his trem equipped guitars to block them off."

Mrs. Nesbet10 Feb 2010Yeah actually an 8 would be sick if it wasn't being used for metal

shutdown10 Feb 2010You mean like Tosin Abasi? Check his 7 string shit out too if you like.
P
PIG..10 Feb 2010Check out Scale the Summit and their album Carving Desert Canyons for some AMAZING 7 and eight string playing!
Yeh, I've considered getting a 7 string, but then decide that I don't really have a use for it.
Looking at the PRS SE Mikael Akerfeldt when they get released.
Pretty sexy axe.

Leevus Alone14 Feb 2010So I'm trying to learn how to play...
I'm using this to learn the chords...
http://www.all-guitar-chords.com/index.phpwhen you pick a chord, on some of the strings it has an 'R' what does this mean?
Bloody fucking.
