Leevus, the R stands for root note.
For example, the chord you posted up is a C, the notes with the R's are the C notes within that chord.

Haha cheers guys.

Yeh shutdown, I've never been able to tell the difference, but with the coated strings, I've heard there's a massive difference.

Ended up getting a set of 11-49 Elixirs.

Much chunkier than the 9-42's I had on it previously.

They were far too slinky!

Leevus, I wouldn't ignore the R's, learning chord theory is one of the best things you can do (in my opinion).

But don't just focus on the R's. Work out what notes should be in the C major chord and then find them on the fretboard.

Then once you start seeing those, you can start trying different shapes/voicings of the same chords.

**disclaimer, my theory knowledge is limited.....very limited.

10 to 52's have been my staple diet until I started rigging with stupidly large strings, basically a set of 11 to 49's with a 56 added and the fine e 10 string thrown in the bin. Makes for one helluva workout guitar tho i wouldn't recommend trying to do it on anything short of a chunky les paul or something that will handle the tension ok. The wound g string is pretty trippy lol. Play that bad-boy for a few weeks, and once your fingers have stopped bleeding and cramping, go play a normal guage setup and you will have vibrato and dexterity like your on PCP and Ice at the same time.

Or you could make like SRV did at one point and play 18 - 74's.

He was quick to point out though that it was ridiculous but made him focus on playing simply.

haha my bad. I'm self taught so i don't know shit about theory.
Sshutdown15 Feb 2010
ok, so i finally got out the vid cam and made one of those gay as fuck self props youtube clips.. hopefully will gee some others up to share their lix via video for the sake of all us other muso's to sit back with our arms crossed and tear new anus's from the mistakes and bad playing techniques (as you will all no doubt do to my playing / clip as well)

Some of it is super sketchy but fark it. Amp is a little Line6 Spider 3 I bought for 150 bucks and guitar is the Patrick Eggle Berlin I posted a pic of earlier in this thread.

Basically just sat there and frigged away for 15 minutes while filming then edited out some of the better bits into like a 2 minute hilghlights reel.. Mostly impro but theres part of a megadeth solo in there and a Jo Satch double tapping mess at the end that is supposed to sound like the riff from Midnight. Prob should have dropped to back pickup to clean it up but that would be trying to hide from the sketchyness which im not a huge fan off. Warts and all baby.. Let the crotique burns begin.

i dig your guitar shutdown. how much did it set you back?
Sshutdown15 Feb 2010
um nothing.. its the girlfriends actually.. She bought it for like 600 bucks second hand many years ago off the guitarist from the Hanging Tree (band before COG with Lucius Borich on Drums (now better known as the drummer on the Cricket ODI / 20-20 Intro clip haha) and Flynn (COGs Singer) on Guitar).

They aren't stupidly expensive tho to buy new.. Patrick Eggle are an awesome guitar manufacturer, as I said before.. Kinda like a half les paul, half PRS at less than half the price.

You can see it in action on the rhs of the stage in this rather rare footage of 'The Hanging Tree' playing one of the songs COG re-did later on '101'. And yes that IS Flynn on the LHS of stage head banging and doing death backup vox hahaha.. As always Lucius killing the pigskins.

Patrick Eggles acoustics are quite good.

I imagine that the quality is similar for the electrics.

Noice noodlin!

Anyone know how Boss RC2 loop stations go? and how much they go for?
GGinger Beer16 Feb 2010
we sell them at work for around 400 i think. Not a cheap pedal. But they are fucking awesome. Best loop pedal for sure.
MMrs. Nesbet16 Feb 2010
oh fuck 400!? damn. Where do you work?
MMrs. Nesbet16 Feb 2010
says like 370 or something at allans, and i got a gift card. looks like im putting one on lay-by
GGruesomania16 Feb 2010
Order one from America, you can get them new for just over $200 including postage. Pedal prices over here are pretty fucked on a lot of things. I don't see how businesses can justify selling them for double the price, especially given how the aussie dollar is doing.
GGinger Beer16 Feb 2010
hey dont look at me, i just work there.

yeah, 370 sounds about right. i knew they were up around there. Your best bet is to do what gruesomania said and get one shipped over from the US.

I just checked on our website and we do them for $404 so yeah, go for allens. I dont know what our policy is on price matching, but we can sometimes beat it depending on the margin of profit. If you're at miranda, stop by and ask one of the guys there, if they can beat it.
Wword war 2 transexual16 Feb 2010
i went into allans the other day to get a big muff and they said if i find one any cheaper anywhere they will take however much cheaper it is of the price and another 10%
Sstankie!17 Feb 2010
just realised theres a guitar thread, only just started playing, anyone else into john frusciante? i suggest you get into his music
MMrs. Nesbet17 Feb 2010
I had a $100 gift card and i got like no income so i just ruled out the loop station, ill get it another time. I ordered in some behringer slow motion pedal, it sounds pretty cool but i don't how good the quality of sound would be but fuck it its only like 60 bucks and its not like its setting me back anything as it was a prezzie. Anyone had a crack on one?
MMrs. Nesbet17 Feb 2010
All it does it changes the attack level but i reckon it would be pretty cool.
Sshutdown17 Feb 2010
"Anyone had a crack on one?"

No but if its behringer, you should be laughing.. I have nothing but extreme love for that brand.. So many wanker muso's with no actual clue apart from what they read in magazines burn behringer but I know for a fact many top studios with cash to burn actually use some of their shit by choice.. Bang for buck factor is always 11/10
MMrs. Nesbet17 Feb 2010
Sick. Can't wait until 7-10 days
Llakyn.17 Feb 2010

Llakyn.17 Feb 2010
