i played one of those hughes and kettner tritone heads, they are a piece of beauty. Im actually building a 15 watt all valve head at the moment. should be finished by this weekend. I'll post pics when its done.
Guitar Thread

wow that 4x12 line6 quaddie looks like a dwarf when compared to the guitars next to it... I havnt had a quaddie for a few years but i could swear i remember them being bigger than that!
^^ yeh man that thing looks a bit small. just turned around to notice my stack towering over my SG
pig thats a nice arch top. what model is that?
a mate of mine has been playing this Sparrow hollowbody. they seem to be ok for money they ask, they do a version with a bigsby and have a shite load of big name bands playing their shit. would be definitely worth a squiz.
he also has one of their les paul shapes, and its a beast

yeah, i put my metre on ohms, and it had continuity, im just shit at soldering
nah it was just the angle i took the photo on, i was standing on my bed
Fuck building an amp. Was it hard?
Ginger Beer = god of this thread.
Is that a baking tray you used for the mount??? Fucking hero!
Id love to hear a recording of your amp.

very impressed dude. did you teach yourself how to do all the wiring etc.?
dude thats fucking sick. always wanted to do something like that. how's she go?
cheers fella's. Yeah, its actually just a cake tin that its all housed in.
I actually did a course with a guy from surry hills and he designed the amp. i just built it. He taught me about how it all works and that and yeah, just went from there. All up, to build the amp itself was about 10 hours worth of work.
I just gave it a run with a cheap 12' speaker from altronics, sounds pretty damn good. Once i mount the speaker in a box itll sound much better. Today though, i just constructed a pine box to house both the head and cabinet. I'll post pics up soon.

gimme some details about the course you did bro
Sure thing. all details about it can be found at www.valveheaven.com.
The guy who runs it is an absolute dude. real nice guy. I dont know how often he runs it but its well worth it!
Im starting on my next project with a mate of my dads which is building a copy of the ol' fender twin reverbs and i already have plans to build a cab, 4x12 with some celestion greenbacks

If i were you, I'd paint your amp black then drip some white paint down the sides & front, just to give it some gnar-wow. But I suppose you'd like it to look not so in your face and shit and probs just rock some kinda black. But white drips would look sick. Im talking drips from the top to bottom, you could even turn the amp upside down when your doing it so when its the right way up you got some crazy upwards dripping paint.
...Thats what I'd do anyway.
Thats actually a pretty damn sweet idea dude. I was thinking maybe get someone from school who is decent at art to just paint some guitars on there. Who knows.
As an artist i would reccomend to not get someone to draw/paint a guitar on your amp cause there really fucking hard. Especially the strings and all the other details. No matter how good your mate/school chum is I'd probably steer away from the guitar idea.
If i were you I'd go simple and effective with some black and white contrast. Also you don't need to be an artist to make paint drip, so it'd be a piss easy job. If you were to follow through with it.

would you ever use that amp in a performance? looks rad man real nice job
Would LOVE to hear how that amp sounds.
I've been umm'ing and ahh'ing about building my own amps for a while now, so that'd be awesome.
Dethmoth, the archtop's an Ibanez AF85. Basically the last archtop of Ibanez's that sounded great (short of the george benson sig models etc)
Tonnes of resonance and great sustain.
Stock pickups are....well......stock pickups, but will be upgraded in the near(ish) future.
Considering a set of Benedetto jazz pup's.
Re-fretted my blazer Sunday night/Yesterday. Stoked with the results.
Made a VERY ghetto fretwire bending rig, which for the record, worked perfectly.
New frets are the same height as the old ones originally were so the nut didn't need replacing.
The old girl plays brilliantly now.
I've got a grin like a Cheshire Cat just thinking about going home and playing it!
Alas, footy training wins out tonight.

When ive finished building the speaker cab which should be tonight, ill try record something.
Invisible man - Yeah i would definately use it on stage. Its nothing but that pure valve sound. There is no gain channel, just tube break up which can be controlled using the master volume and the volume which is awesome.
PIG - if you have the knowledge on how to build your own amp, id definately say go for it. You can get schematics for almost any amp you're after from www.schematicheaven.com and go from there. Im in the process of gathering the materials to build a Boss OD-1 and i got the schematics from that site.

thats so sick man mad props
i went on that valve haven site and was reading about it and it said you can get electricuted while building it?
did you have any troubles or anything with that

No not at all, just dont plug it in until you are 100% positive it will work and you have checked over everything with a multimeter and you wont get shocked. And if you plug it in and it for some reason doesnt work, then you discharge the capacitors until you're sweet
Im actually concerned that the cake tin isnt isolated from the circuit electrically should part of the circuit short out this could be a potential electrocution hazard.
Full marks on the work however.

oh yeah sweet, im going to try and find a melbourne course for this
good luck with that dude. I was told its the only amp school in Australia. I may be wrong though
