While we are on the topic of home-made things... Has anyone built a cigar box guitar? I wouldn't mind making one in the near future, i got some spare Pups to chuck in it too. Advice, etc?

Ginger Beer, how many people did the course when you were doing it?

Yeh I checked out Schematics Heaven yesterday and grabbed some schematics for some old Marshall 15 watt Studio amps.

Got a few friends who are electrical engineers, so might enlist their help in the build!

Marty Friedman clinics are happening at Allans music stores, go check the allans website!

umm, Kurt Cobain and nirvana played half a step down, none of their songs could physically be played with an E or G, Learn to music, retard.
DDeathMoth17 Mar 2010
yeh they could... barre chords? various other forms... but yeh.

hows this troll
EEl Dictator17 Mar 2010
umm no,its pretty much impossible to play barre chords in drop tunings, jesus
PPIG..17 Mar 2010
Didn't kurt cobain play all strings down half a step?
In which case, barre chords would be simple to play?
Also, also, wouldnt that mean that First and third chord of smells like teen spirit are E and G respectively?

never understood the nirvana hype. Too me, the best thing to come out of nirvana is drave grohl
PPIG..17 Mar 2010
Yeh, was never a Nirvana kid myself, but can understand how people were.
In other news, just bought a ticket to the Marty Friedman clinic.
This will be nothing short of spectacular.
EEl Dictator18 Mar 2010
no,tuning half a step down is a drop tuning, its impossibloe to barre the low E,which becomes a D#, with the other string, and you can only play on the dots in that tuning,,unless you want to sound like the blues or metal or any of that shit
PPIG..18 Mar 2010
E flat technically, unless we start getting into more advanced scale theory.

However Kurt didn't drop e flat.

My understanding is that he tuned EVERYTHING down half a step and for some songs, dropped the low e String to a C#

PS, Decaf.
EEl Dictator18 Mar 2010
nope, everything was standard except for his low E. that IS stardard for tuning down half a step.ask anyone

hmmm..so at the thought of a marty clinic i had to clean my undies.. ive never followed him apart from his role in megadeth / rust in peace but the work he did there was all time..

however...

as i always do, i just youtubed marty clinic and found this clip, and I would have to say he all but DESTROYS one of my all time marty solos (Tornado of souls).. Not saying the clinic wont kick arse, but im no longer going to buy a ticket based purely on this clip..

Ok I'm thinking of moving out of home, which means soon i won't be able to play through my dad's JCM. Therefor I need to concider a new amp. Preferably a valve amp. But I'm not too fussy... Which leads to the question of what amplifier will provide me with the best bang for buck? Looking for like a 30-ish watt amp, that i can comfortably jam with.
Sshutdown18 Mar 2010
i been jammin lately in a fairly standard rock band and the other guitarist has a little mesa boogie valve 30watt combo, the thing sounds amazing and is fucking loud! I feel like a tool breaking my back lugging my 50 watt JCM 800 combo while he rocks up with what looks like a practice amp and keeps up with juice to spare..

considering grabbing one myself im that impressed.. I always heard the old dogs say 'a little mesa combo is the shit' but now im convinced.

As for affordable, now that im not too sure about..
NNenaeststas18 Mar 2010
Cool. So how much would i pay for a mesa?

Speaking of behringer, I got my slow motion pedal a couple of weeks ago. And man does it suck. I'll probs sell it. Might put it on eBay now actually.
GGinger Beer18 Mar 2010
what style of music mr magpie?

Im a huuuuuuge fan of the fender hot rod deluxe's/devilles. I'd highly recommend one. Best sounding clean channel you can get for an affordable price.
NNenaeststas18 Mar 2010
"Alternative rock"... so i'd like a decent celan channel and some fuck off stoner rock distortion, or one that hold distortion well (for fuzzface)

"I got my slow motion pedal a couple of weeks ago. And man does it suck."

lol.. i dont even know what a slow motion pedal is. But yeh no surprise that it sucks..
NNenaeststas18 Mar 2010
Yeah man i knew i was talking a mad risk buying it but i had a gift voucher so i though fuck it. It changes the attack (very poorly). It said used in conjunction with a delay would give it some granly backwards sounds. But yeah... Now im selling it. fuck that.

No, what pig said.
PPIG..18 Mar 2010
Slow motion Pedals can be BRILLIANT when used properly, but you really have to be playing something that suits the pedal.
Definitely not to everyones taste.
Speaking of pedals, if anyone knows of anyone selling a Boss DD-3 Delay pedal cheap, PLEASE let me know.
