G'day,
The budget has been released and it has the commitment from the state Gov ($100,000) but it has removed the $400,000 from Moreland council. The $100,000 was granted subject to the council commitment, so there is effectively no money.
What do we do?
Well the best way to go about it is to lobby the council. Write your feedback to the link below. I have copy/pasted my Hi,
Upon reading the budget I am disapointed to see the lack of funding for a skate facility. I can see the state gov has allocated $100,000, but there is no budget allocation from the council. In my experience this funding is usually committed based upon significant council contribution. It feels as though the council is selling our youth and community short.
In my 25 years experience I have seen the positive impact youth facilities have had on young people. As a former youth worker and coach (with over 1000 hours of proffessional skateboard coaching experience) I appreciate the value that these facilities bring to the community, families and indivuduals.
$100,000 will not be enough to build anything of significance, let alone a quality facility. Previously, a commitment was proposed for $400,000 from council and $100,000 from SRV. This would see a world class facility with the opportunity for events with a global reach. This would give scope for putting Brunswick on the world stage, showcasing the arts, culture and youth hub that Brunswick has become.
I look forward to your thoughts on the matter. Please do not hesitate to contact me via email or phone **********
