*Put Alli's word in " & "
That is awesome! Another northside park would be sweet as!! Sorry if this has been mentioned already but where in Brunny are they thinking to put it?
ah wait shit saw it in the thread ... That is a great location!
Ok....we have a rad location, an awesome advocate in council, a very decent budget (that has room for lights) and a council that is down for events.
I am still keen to push for a proper sized clover and a Pontus Alv inspired street section that incorporates the existing path. This push is consistent with the views of locals. Come down and show your support and have sketches and well formed ideas. Council email below.

Everyone with an interest in Skating in Brunswick should attend, Especially skaters!
love your work josh! thanks!
Great work man!
A park that hasthe big ass clover along with trannies of all sizes like St Kilda and Rosehill would be rad. Kids can pick up a board for the first time and learn everything they need in just those parks.
Thanks for the kind words but I am just the messenger.
I was thinking about it last night after watching the Turf section in Streets of Fire. An oregon style one would be great. The misnomer that only 30 somethings want to skate big, proper tranny is debunked when you hit St Kilda.
That said, Melbourne is in need of a proper street inspired park too. Obstacles that flow and are creative, hence the Pontus inspiration. The existing path could be utilised to save $ and get more for your buck.
With the proposed budget we should be able to satisfy both of these needs. So many skaters live northside (and Brunswick is easily accessable by public transport anyway) I think it will be a great thing.
so whats the latest. whats the current budget and when is this all proposed to happen?
i want a local already dammit!
$500k. June next year
I think you have misinterpreted the idea behind Pontus' TBS spot. The reason TBS is rad is because it's a rough as guts street DIY that corresponds to Polar's image. Not a great place for a bunch of Brunswick kids to go skate.
I skated TBS earlier this year and to be honest it has difficult obstacles and is limited to one skater at a time. It's a street spot. It doesn't posses any of the ideals of a skate park.
I understand you are trying to keep your ideas fresh and relevant but I think your wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars on something the UNO crew already do for far cheaper.
Enough with the gimmicks, what's wrong with building a good usable skate park? Let's create a Fitzy or Riverside that transcends generations not another Fawkner...
I think you misinterpreting the idea behind street elements that flow. Of course it is not going to be rough as guts DIY style park.
My opinion is just one opinion, influenced by talking to locals. Come down and have your say your ideas and opinions are as valid, valued and as important as anyone elses.
To have a well rounded park a good street section and good bowl section are important for all styles and tastes of skaters. When you have a council that is down with events and lights and has enough money to do both elements of a park properly this is something we want the community behind.
Transition wise, I personally (along with some other heads) will be pushing for a proper sized deep end clover with a mid and shallow.
My roots are skating "street" and I still skate the city from time to time and I am large advocate for lobbying to fill the gap in Melbourne's plaza style parks. I would be cautious to say this is what the local Melbourne/Brunswick street skaters want as it certainly isn't the focus of my skateboarding these days and I don't really jump down stuff anymore!
Hopefully you come down with your mates Christopher and have some solid, well thought out ideas. It is one thing to say what you do not want but it is much more important to bring ideas to the table.
Fawkner is a really fun and unique park and I understand it was not to everyone's taste. The locals that put in the input are stoked on it and it is sessioned heavily.
As far as Fitzy goes, we have at least 10 poor man's replicas in the state! As far as river's goes, the simplicity of blocks being able to be hit from frontside to backside angles and the obtuse angled big hip are timeless simple obstacles that should be staples in every park. St Kilda could easily have had a flat bar and a ledge and widened its appeal.
See you Tuesday lets enjoy sharing ideas. So long as it is not the same 10 scooter kids wanting a series of spines or the same boring "6 stair with a tiny rail" I think we all win*
*These are the ad neaseam suggestions at every consultation in my opinion
To clarify
My roots are skating "street" and I still skate the city from time to time and I am large advocate for lobbying to fill the gap in Melbourne's plaza style parks. I would be cautious to say this is what the local Melbourne/Brunswick street skaters want as it certainly isn't the focus of my skateboarding these days and I don't really jump down stuff anymore!
I mean that I would not push to influence street or plaza elements. I would not want to make suggestions on behalf of Brunswick or Melbournes heads that are skating street every day. Some stuff works and some doesn't and it is easy to tweak things to make them better but I would rather lobby on ideas with consensus from the people skating it every day as opposed to forming to many ideas myself.
My opinion is not less or more valued than anyone elses.
I just attend a lot of boring meetings in my free time and have had years experience in how to convey ideas effectively
*meeting is Wednesday, not Tuesday. Typing whilst at work!
All sounding great Josh.
A mix would be a great idea even to have the big clover and then a three or three and a half foot bowled quarter at one end and a four footer at the other would be great for folks to learn on and provide flow for the rest of the park if put in the right places.
That is a good point though about St K being a lot of fun for all ages though. Hope we can all try and get something that much fun for Brunny.
Reminder bump for this afternoon. Details above
Yeah, get down there now and help Josh.
Great consultation today. The designers really listened and had some great ways to help share ideas. General consensus seems to be a proper sized clover bowl and a street section with a focus on simplicity and function. Thanks to everyone that showed up and put their ideas forward.
The clover idea had consensus and was developed further by everyone. Things become classic because they work. Transitions, depths, waterfalls ect were all discussed in depth.
It was great to see the Uno blokes rock up and put things forward. Stoked they are keen to follow the process through and stay involved, great input.
Lights were discussed and seemed to be going ahead with a separate budget.
There may be some lobbying of council required to lock a few things in, I'll keep you posted.
Thanks to the designers from Enlocus and Baseplate for running a great consultation and taking the time to note down everyone's ideas. It is a privilege to have your thoughts so carefully considered. They printed up every photo from this thread too, so take notice for future park input threads.
A massive thank you to Alli. Without advocates like her this project would not be happening at all.
That was awesome. It was a great bunch of folks who turned up for the session. Alli and the design crew are a bunch of legends and I was pretty stoked to meet the bloke who designed Rosehill and the West Beach SA mini pool which are about as fun as skatepark obstacles get. But this seems to be in good hands and I'm looking really forward to the next meeting next year.
Josh,
If council can't fund a full flood light installation, a power point will be enough so we can leave the generator at home.
Besides, permanent flood lights are often targets for the bored.
Flood lights shouldn't be an issue
a simple, small sized hubba/kicker to ledge similar to the one at seaford park would be good, skate up, skate down
agreed on seaford replica.
things everyone loves
[ ] bump to ledge / rail
[ ] mini ramps
[ ] lumpy lumps
[ ] flatbars
[ ] foot high ledges
[ ] the pot hole replica
The mini is a great idea. With the way the space for the park works I reckon we could get creative with one as there are two walls on each corner of where the park will be so we could even go nuts with it and have a burnside style tranny wall ride. But hell, a nice 3 and a half to four foot mini would be freakin' sweet on its own.
Using the wall has been suggested and on the cards
Man oh man. The way this street section is going this will be amazing, not to mention the bowl which will be a monster!
