I do not understand why Melbourne needs another bowl?
St Kilda, fitzroy, broadmeadows, frankston, Taylor's lakes, coburg, plus several others...total overkill but if that one does stand at least make the wall with the roll in flat so gap to grinds and such forth are feasible instead of having two penis ends facing each other which are basically useless.(the hip roll in)

Melbourne has plenty of bowls, but it has plenty of street parks too. This also isn't just another bowl, it's a clover with an 11ft deep section. There's only one comparable bowl anywhere near Melbourne, and that's Frankston.

it would be cool to try and emulate drain embankments, kind of like the image Tinbum posted above...

is the next meeting open to the community? I'd love to come along.

But there is potential where the stairs and hubba are to take out the right hand side hubba put a rail in and have a grass gap( I'm thinking a mini Carlsbad gap replica but reversed with a hubba on the other side) there is a lot of fun to be had with this...

RE: Brunswick Skatepark 2013 Yeah if you are going to have landscaping and a gap may as well have a grass gap or two?

It's all good Luke everyone's opinion is just as valid. The response I have found for the bowl has been 100% positive, apart from people that just don't want a bowl in general. I have seen a few comments from different people saying "It's 2014 man why are we having a bowl". I just don't get that, large bowl/tranny skating is huge. Thats not just the older crew too there are heaps of younger crew killing that are generally well rounded skaters. I thought the whole "I am a tranny/street skater" thing died in the 90's.

All the bowls listed, apart from Fanga, are 8ft max and don't cater for events. Melbourne has a lot of 8ft max, square ended bowls but nothing like this. I am sure it is worth revisiting the channel, I personally like it. This bowl will be perfect for events such as the recent ones at Newcastle, Wellington NZ and Bondi this weekend. The council is down (unlike St Kilda)

I would 100% agree that Melbourne needs more plaza style parks and there is an unfilled demand. If we work together we can make this street section rad and fill the gap in the parks for Melbourne. Simplicity and functionality are the key. I would say that we have a few unique parks in the area (Fawkner & Rezza) so we don't really need to be as creative. Ledges, manny pads, flat bars, different banks.

My main issue is the curved big three being a waste of space and not functional. I can see so many bits on the surrounding areas that don't work (like elements of Geelong that end in another ledge or have no run up/out) I was at Taylors Hill last night and the big three curved thing (pictured) has hardly a grind mark. It doesn't work.

My other concern is the surrounding wheel chair ramp. I know the designers are wanting to keep it empty for input as to what should be put there but there is not one obstacle.

Anyway thats my 2 cents. There is going to be a bowl so move on, get some solid ideas for the street section and make it happen

Replicating classic Melbourne street spots could be a solid and easily communicated theme. One of the younger crew, Francis, suggested it. He had an idea to replicate the Northcote Town Hall spot which is now kinda capped. He also suggested Lincoln 3.

What are some other classic Melbourne spots? It's a easy one for the designers to replicate. Don't have to limit it to Melbourne.

Make something that isn't aimed at the 30 year old + skate scene.

Hat park looks horrible and majority of the space seemed to have gone to waste. People just want simple parks with simple aspects a few nice ledges and rails some banks and some tranny

Argh. We have all established the street section needs a lot of work to make it something we would all be happy with. I think we all agree that nice and simple basic street elements are what is required, it's been stated over and over.

Sexcrime I am skoked to put in so many hours to have dumb cunts like you hurl insults. Turn up or put in some suggestions or alternatively just neck up.

These are open forums to input IDEAS. It's pretty easy to say whats wrong with something, offer an alternative.

I attend these meetings with no more or less input than anybody else. If you were to have a look at this whole thread all I am trying to do is to get people to input ideas so we can put them forward together. I don't design the things, I am often just the messenger trying to get ANYONE that want to have a say to the consultations.

Fuck me this can be really annoying I don't know why I bother

He's just try to get to you. Forget that one. Actually I might come along but everytime I have been to council related I get told to leave or sit silently as New Zealanders have no input to this country.

Also you know that skating bowl is what I enjoy most but I actually want a street park I can have fun at these days. I get the whole big bowl thing being a good add on to the inner Melbourne parks as it is needed. Is there any chance of changing that side wall to flat. I feel that could nearly ruin half of the bowl on using that whole back wall properly.

Hey Josh, do you have a larger/higher resolution version of the top down view of the plans you could post? Can't read any of the heights or descriptions on the current one.

RE: Brunswick Skatepark 2013 I usually love reading these forums when a new park is being built. Seeing all the rad ideas flying about to make the most of the funding that is being given..

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU GUYS??!

Just get behind Josh and put some CONSTRUCTIVE criticism forward.
We all get that the initial design is lacking. That is so you guys can put your ideas in to get what you want.
There is a million things that could make this better (which all of you have so eloquently pointed out by saying that its a piece of shit)
So instead of sitting there with your hands in your pants, get on paint, photoshop or a freakin note pad and show Josh what you want.

My input is; make some of those weird red ledge things more skate able, and utilise the weird road thing that runs around the outside of the park. Like put a big ol flat bar in there (seems pretty popular at the moment).

Picture attached is loose sketch I did in a couple of minutes with some decent ideas and some not so decent ideas but I'm just stirrin the pot.

Big block set doesn't need to be all the way across on both sides, cool BIG obstacle but could be a fraction of what it is and use the area better.
Bank to manny is pretty shit for flow but could work with a bit of thought.

I think having the path with a flowy street run is a good idea that utilises other parts of the park.

Rest of street section still has potential to be wangled into something awesome.

Vert wall is fun but kinda wanky.

Sorry for raping your design but just trying to get some ideas to flow, if you're getting a park might as well make it good.

Ps is there gonna be a love seat or death box in the clover?
Pps im not a 45 year old keyboard skater that wishes he was Hosoi.

RE: Brunswick Skatepark 2013 Street section definitely needs a re work, is there anywhere to view higher res plans?
As said, it needs the basics, kicker to out ledge/rail and down like berwick park has a real good one, also rose hill but they kinked their hubba which gets less use. (Id also like to put that the rail if round should be thinner. The fatter round rails that they have at rose hill, gisborne, newport flat bar etc grip a lot for blunt tricks, a smaller diameter pipe like the new flat bar at the indoor park in geelong is perfect).
Kicker to kicker at rose hill gets a lot of use and doesn't take up much room, could do a longer, slightly higher but more mellow one like at stoner park. Long flatbar, either on flat or down a long mellow bank (geelong indoor again, or maryborough park in country vic) are fun. As for what the flatbar is made out of, in the BG of the stoner park pic you can see that marble or granite flatbar, there is a shorter version at rosebud park, that shit grinds and slides good as fuck.
Should DEFINITELY do a pretty sweet/nuggets cronicles part/Nello DIY parking block ledge/rail with the slanted sides, the one at DIY was the most fun thing i've skated for ages and melbourne doesn't have one anywhere now that i'm aware of.
I think back there someone mentioned a wheelchair rail. The little one they have at ramp it is real fun. I was thinking the council might possibly be dicey putting the rail across the front so the green area could either swing open or it could just not be there and you could put a three stair or something to clean instead like that thing Blake carpenter ss tres in cosmic vomit 2. since being at a skatepark it wouldn't be a full height wheelchair rail and it could even be an up rail for leo enthusiasts.
Also found that pink ledge from the adidas madrid video, can be used as a normal ledge or ollie up and hit the bank.
Different style for the normal hips too, like the one at Rosebud again is really fun, or i found that screen shot from the blueprint video something like that but less hectic.
Where and when is the next meeting Josh? Would be keen to come down

to clear instead*
And cunts stop coming in here and just saying this sucks and leaving the thread. If you don't like it and you don't want 500k of council money they want to spend on you go to waste, then have some fucking input. Josh does a lot with the councils to help Melbourne parks and if it wasn't for him stage 2 of Fawkner would be a fucking Parkour course!

Thanks gents we seem to be back on track.

All great ideas. I agree with the big "why" circled area 100%. Tim b the meeting is Thursday 6 March 2014 4-6pm. There was talk of a Lewis Tribute obstacle, he was the lord of the wheelchair ramp to bar. I've been wanting a parking block ledge like the one you circled for years. The blocks can be maintained/replaced by the locals when needed. Everyone wanted one at the meetings too.

Nieve (and anyone else) if you want to shoot me an email/facestalk msg I'll ask for some high res plans, or put you email here.

Thanks
Tim B.

Yeah Josh for sure, even if you just bent up some steal in the same shape as the parking block it would be sick, so good for pop out combo type tricks.
Where are the meetings held? I'll come down to the next one.

RE: Brunswick Skatepark 2013 that "why?" is probably the best question asked on this whole project, outwards curved ledges never add anything to a park.

replicating northcote ledges, a DIY parking block, and this thing are really good ideas... I think they're all possible to fit in here somewhere and maintain the flow, anyone good at tetris?
